   Morelenbaum2/Sakamoto の第2章『A Day in New York』は、このトリオの2002年のデビュー・アルバム『Casa』のムーディーでエレガントなところを受け継ぎながら、構想を一部切り捨てたり拡張したりしている。アントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンの多岐にわたる作品群をカヴァーした内容であること、比較的知名度の低い楽曲にも手を伸ばしていることは『Casa』と同様だが、今回のMorelenbaum2/Sakamotoはそれだけに留まってはおらず、新たなジョビンのカヴァー5曲、ほかの作曲家の作品3曲に加え、『Casa』でも取り上げた作品3曲のニュー・ヴァージョンをも収録。

   今回のセッション（ツアーの終わりにスタジオで行われた）は、ムーディーなデビュー・アルバムよりややアップビートな演奏となっている。にもかかわらず、音楽はまたしてもため息ものの素晴らしさだ。ギタリストのルイス・ブラジル、パーカッショニストのマルセロ・コスタが助っ人に加わったことも大きいのだろう。ハイライトとしては、名曲「Desafinado」、ジョアン・ジルベルトの「Bim Bom」と「Insensitez」がある。いずれも過去最高といっていいほど見事な仕上がりだ。

   ロマンスへのせつないまでのあこがれ、センチメンタルな演奏、昔ながらのボサノヴァがもつ味わい深い抑制がいっぱい詰まった『A Day in New York』は、優秀なデビュー・アルバムを引き継ぐにふさわしい秀作といえるだろう。（Tad Hendrickson, Amazon.com）

国内盤よりも先行でのリリースとなった本作。
前回のCASAからも数曲ピックアップされているが、単なる前作からの延長とは違う二作目の自信というか
息の合った、まるで情景が浮かぶような息の合った演奏を展開しているように感じる。
前作と違うのはよりボサノバが持つ「遊び心」「粋」といったものが色濃く

出ているかと思えば、しっかりと「聴かせる」曲もあり最後の曲までの時間は
本当にあっという間だ。
６曲目のchora coracaoから8曲目の妙子女史との名曲tangoでのpaulaの
ヴォーカルは既に究極の表現の域に達している。
余りにも美しすぎて言葉が見つからないとはこの事だと感じる。

是非皆さん今年の夏、いやボサのスタンダードとしてコレクションに加えてください。

収録曲がアルバムのCASAと数曲かぶるが、ＣＡＳＡを聴いたことがある人でも十分楽しめる一枚。9曲目のシェガ・チ・サウダ-ジ、7曲目のサビアーを筆頭に、とても美しい珠玉の曲ぞろいである。最初、全体を通して聴いたとき、ピアノの音がボーカルの音にかかりすぎ、というかピアノの音が特に大きめの気がしたが、何度も聴いていくにつれ、そういった最初の違和感はたんなる気のせいだったことに気づく。
天気のいい午後などに、部屋で、公園で散歩しながら聴くのも気持ちいいかもしれない。
