   パット・メセニーが自身のホームスタジオで1本のマイクだけを使って録音した本作は、バリトン・ギターによるワンマン・ソロ・アルバムという点が一風変わっている。バリトン・ギターは通常のギターより低い音程でチューニング、ベース的効果をも狙った特殊なギター。パットの6弦バリトン・ギターは、これまでパットのギターを何本も制作しているカナダ人女性Linda Manzerによる特別モデル。それにしても、バリトン・ギター1本によるソロ・アルバムなんて前代未聞のことだ。パットによればこのアルバム、「純粋に自分自身の探究心、そしてある晩（2001年11月24日）、自宅で演奏を楽しんだ時の喜びを表現するために作られた作品」なのだという。静かなたたずまいだけど、内に情熱を秘めたソロ演奏はクラシカルな美しさに彩られている。ノラ・ジョーンズのヒット曲<3>、キース・ジャレットの<6>、ジェリー＆ペースメイカーズの<8>以外はすべてパットのオリジナルで、新曲のほか、『スティル・ライフ』収録の<12>を再演しているのも話題だ。（市川正二）

深く自分の来たし方を考える時、静かに、自分1人で、聴きたい。アイラモルトがあれば良いが別になくてもかまわない。ビールやワインやブランデーは要らない。

連れが居ても構わないが、パット・メセニーが演奏してる間は静かにして欲しい、話し掛けないで、そっとしておいて欲しい・・・。

・・・いつかは出るだろうと思っていたパットのソロ演奏によるＣＤ。それもバリトン・ギターという聴きなれないギター・ソロ、ということで楽しみにしていた。

3.ドント・ノー・ホワイは別として、聴いたことがあるようなメロディやフレーズがちらっと聴こえるだけで？と思うような曲6.マイ・ソング、12.ラスト・トレイン・ホームや、戸惑わせるような意外な展開の曲が数曲あり、第1印象は決して良くはなかった。

が、何度か聴いているうちに、ある静かな夜、ある一瞬、何か言葉で表現できない喜びや悲しみの感情が沸き起こってきた。それは演奏者であるパットの喜びや悲しみや、の感情であったことと今では理解している。

部屋の照明を落として、心を静かに落ち着けて、肯定的な心的態度で聴いて欲しい。

　私はパットメセニーの大ファンでは無い。彼の全ての音源を聴いているわけでは無い。でも本作と「ミズーリの空高く」は毎晩必ずどちらかを聴いて心を落ち着かせる。色々な方が評価をしているがギターを弾いたことの（ある程度）ある方だったら彼のギターへの思いは充分理解できる。スムースジャズとかにカテゴライズして好きだ嫌いだのような判断は陳腐としか言えない。もう少し広く音楽を聴いてお勉強していただきたい。本作も彼の代表作となるに間違いない。

~リリースされて結構経つけれど、最近改めて聞き直してみてこのアルバムの良さに気づかされました。パットメセニーグループで彼が見せる完全に計算された壮大な世界はここには無いけれど、逆に彼が夜一本のギターと一人で向き合った大切な時間がここにはあると思う。
長い人生の中時折訪れるひとりの夜。そんなときこのアルバムがあればその夜が少し優しくな~~る、いつも必要としているわけではないけれど、折々で聞き返す事になる大切なアルバムになると思います。~
