   従来、PlayStation2でネットワーク対応ゲームをプレイするためには、ハードディスクとネットワークアダプターが一体となったユニットを購入する必要があった。本製品はハードディスクが付属しない構成のものだ。今後、日本でのサービスが予定されているネットワークアダプターのみを使用してプレイできるオンラインゲームなどに対応する。

   対応タイトルは、今のところ『SOCOM U.S. NAVY SEALS』となっている。なお、別売りの『PlayStation 2専用ハードディスクドライブ（EXPANSION BAY タイプ 40GB）』を追加購入することで、『PlayStationBB Unit（EXPANSION BAY タイプ 40GB）』と同等の機能を得ることができる。（平井 信）

    型番10000から20000などの一部の機種は内蔵ＨＤＤ増設ベイが無いので利用出来ません。これらの初期タイプは内蔵タイプではなく外付けタイプを購入しないとネット接続は不可です。型番70000からの薄型ＰＳ２は残念ながらＨＤＤは増設不可。

    内蔵ＨＤＤ単品はネットワークアダプタと対で運用する商品ですので、ネットワークアダプタをお持ちでない方は別に単品で購入するか、ネットワークアダプタ+ＨＤＤがセットになったPlayStation BB Unit（約￥13000から￥15000）の購入をオススメします。

    ゲームのパッケージに「オンライン専用」と記載されている物はこのＨＤＤ＆ネッワークアダプタが必須です。主なゲーム　ＦＦ11　信長の野望Online　他数本。

    ゲームのパッケージに「オンライン対応」と記載されている物はネットワークアダプタのみ必要な物が多く、ＨＤＤは必ずしも必要ではありません。主なゲーム　モンスターハンターシリーズ　バイオハザードアウトブレイクシリーズ　他多数。（型番70000からの薄型タイプは本体にネットワークアダプタの機能が内蔵されているので、ネットワークアダプタを購入する必要が有りません）

    自分が遊びたいゲームに必要な機器が何か、自分の持っているＰＳ２はどのタイプなのかをよく調べた上で購入すれば、誤購入は無いでしょう。

    使用していたディスクが老朽化したので、交換目的に約6年ぶりに購入しましたが、2008年の時点でたかが40GBのHDDに1万円も払うのはどうかと思いました。
    時代に合わせてもっと値下して欲しいのですが、これは無理だろうなぁ…

    HDDも買ったほうがより楽しめます。
    よりあえず、上記ページで遊びたいゲームがあるか確認してはいかがでしょうか。

    周辺機器を揃えた後で、遊びたいゲームが無い…なんて事は避けられると思います。

    ちなみに、2003年12月発売の大作ではこの2タイトルがネットワークアダプタだけで遊べます。
    「機動戦士Zガンダム エゥーゴvs.ティターンズ」
    「バイオハザード　アウトブレイク」
    バイオはHDD対応なのであった方が快適プレイが楽しめると思います。
