   皮肉屋なら、いったい何種類ビーチ・ボーイズのベスト・アルバムを出せば気が済むのかという疑問だけで終わってしまうかもしれない。しかし、皮肉屋でない人々なら、『Sounds Of Summer』ならではの特色を高く評価するだろう。バンドのキャリア全体からここまで幅広い選曲がなされているにもかかわらず、ディスク1枚にまとめられているというベスト・アルバムは本作が初めてだ。1962年の「Surfin' Safari」から1988年の「Kokomo」までを網羅。30トラックすべて（数回にわたるレーベル移籍をはさむ）がビルボードのトップ40入りしており、いまやラジオ、テレビでおなじみの国民的愛唱歌となっているので、誰でも知っている曲ばかりというわけだ。トラックの並び方が年代順ではない点は、新鮮なリスニング体験にひと役買っている。パリッとしたデジタル・サウンドとなっている点も同様だ。

近年ステレオミックスされた音源があればそれが積極的に採用され、
彼等のキャリアが1枚に凝縮されていて初めて聴くには超お買い得盤です。
(初めて聴く方には "Heroes And Villains" はこの STEREO版でまず聴いてほしい!)
そして新規にリミックスされたステレオミックスも何曲か入っているので

BB5のコンピはもう沢山と思っている方にも聴きどこがないわけではありません(笑)。

収録時間の関係上か "Friends" や "Little Girl I Once Knew" 等がオミットされているのが寂しいのと、
ひとつ前の GH 然りなんですが(長い歴史の)音質を適度に揃える為かラジオ栄えするようにか、

マスタリングがちょっとエンハンストし過ぎなのがちょい難ですが価格と便利さでまあ良です。

フルカラーのブックレットも各曲のデータ入り、レーベルもキャピトルのオレンジ渦巻き、
息の長いベストになるような気がしますが
