「新世界より」その副題とは違い、ボヘミアそのものという感じがしてならないのだが（そういう演奏のほうが「正解」かもしれない）、この演奏で聴ける「新世界より」はクーベリックやノイマンの名演で聴けるような牧歌的な雰囲気はない。非常に能力が高いシカゴ響による精密なアンサンブルと、ショルティならではのダイナミックな演奏は「From the New World」というよりも「Welcome to the STATES!」といっているようで、牧歌的な「新世界より」に食傷気味の耳には新鮮に聴こえると思う（セルとクリーブランドの演奏やドホナーニとクリーブランドの見事なまでのアンサンブルも牧歌的からは程遠いが、それをもってしてもこのショルティの演奏に比べると土臭さがある）。
もちろん好き嫌いはあるだろうが、個人的にはこの快演は嫌いではない。３楽章から４楽章にかけて畳み掛けるような迫力はドヴォルザークと言うよりも、バルトークの「管弦楽のための協奏曲」をも髣髴とさせる。うるさいと感じさえしなければ飽きる暇もなく一気呵成に聴かされてしまう。ただし、2楽章がお好きな人が聴いたら許せないと思うかもしれないが。
スタンダードになり得る演奏か？　というとそうではないかもしれないし、迷よりは名演なのかもしれない。小生は特別好きというわけではないが、ショルティがお好きな人にはマーラーの3番や5番、または「展覧会の絵」と並んでお勧めの録音だと思う。

シカゴ響との「新世界」とウィーンフィルとの「未完成」、
巨匠ショルティの芸術とのことで、以前別々に持ってました。
新世界は一言で言うと「暴力的に書き殴ったアメリカの風景」
強引な印象だけです。
未完成は途中、「アレ？」と思うフレージングがあります。
確かに、シカゴ交響楽団の合奏力は超世界的なのですが、
これはあまりお勧めできません。
