出だしのホルンからして驚いたんですけども、遅めのテンポ設定ながら、ゆったり歌わせるよりも、重厚さへのクライマックスを意図しているように聴きました。ショルティのベートーヴェンにも共通して、遅めのテンポで、明晰に楽譜を表現している。十二分に個性的なグレートで、クライマックスに展開するに従い、いやが応にも、ワーグナーとの類似を感じました（わてはワーグナーのファンでもないのに）。

最近の古楽器奏法の影響を受けた録音等ともよいコントラストを成していて、古きよき巨匠的快演かと思います。もう25年も経つのですから。ショルティのワーグナーがお好きな方、どちらかというとロマンチィシズムよりも硬質で重厚な表現がお好きな方にお勧めです

ウイーンフィルの柔らかくもメリハリのある音が抜ける様によく響くいい演奏です。 テンシュテット・ベルリンフィルとテンポ設定は似ているけど、解釈は全然違う。
自分としてはショルティの様に「表現を過度に付けずに楽譜に忠実に演奏する」方が好みなので、テンシュテットの様に「むせび泣く2楽章」や「大はしゃぎの終楽章」はちょっと苦手。 同じ意味で内田光子よりは田部京子、ポリーニよりはシフ、テンシュテットよりはショルティをつい選んでしまう訳なんです。
なお、終楽章の提示部繰り返しをやっていますが、全然長さを感じず飽きません。 最後のデクレッシェンドも上手く余韻が残り、実に自然。
「ザ・グレート入門用」としても最適だと思います。
なお、これは再版されている24ビットリマスター盤でのレビューですが、カップリングのジークフリート牧歌は意外な名演。音質も50年以上昔とはとても思えない程クリアーです。
