3.0 out of 5 stars 基本的に初心者向けのコンピレーション, 2004/5/6
ELOは1971年から1986年まで活動し、2001年に活動を再開するという、バンドとしてのヒストリーは比較的長いものといえます。1970年代後半を中心にヒット曲も多く、シングルカットされた曲だけでもCD1枚に収まらないため、なかなか手軽なベスト盤は存在しません。できうることならUK盤のUltimate Collectionが現在手に入るベストチョイスだと思うのですが、2枚組みで手を出しにくいという方にはこのコンピレーションをお勧めします。

元来廉価版として企画されたものなので、CDの収録時間もフルに使いきっていませんし、代表曲と言える曲でも入っていない曲はいくつかあります。ですが、ELOが最もELOらしかった時期の曲（1976年「オーロラの救世主」からT2, T6, T9、1977年「アウトオブザブルー」からT4, T7, T8、1979年「ディスカバリー」からT10, T14）を中心に選曲され、入門盤としての選曲がなされています。しかも、全曲リマスターがなされていますし、日本語解説もついてきます。

ただ、ELOが1980年以降失速していった理由のひとつが、T14のDon't Bring Me Downのヒットに気を良くしたロックンロールタイプのシングル連発だと思うのですが、この製品はまさにその轍を踏んでいるように見えます。特に日本のファンなら、T11:Hold On TightよりTwilight、T13:Rock'n' Roll Is KingよりSecret Messagesを入れたほうがアトラクティブでしょうし、異論はあるにせよELOの代表曲のひとつであるXanaduが入っていないのも問題です。また、初期の3枚からRoll Over Beethoven1曲しかピックされていない、最新作Zoomが無視されている、というのも不満に思えます。さらに、できればコアなファンにも購入意欲をそそる目玉曲があってもよかったような。
