夜中のＴＶ番組で紹介されたのが，「ヨイトマケの唄」との出会いでした。他の歌い手の持ち歌の中から好きな歌を1曲歌うというコーナーの中で，槇原のりゆきさんが歌っていました。節回しに初めは慣れなくて，この歌のどこがお気に入りなの？と思いながら聞いていましたが,だんだん歌詞に引き込まれ，いつの間にか涙が止まらなくなっていました。もう一度聞きたいと思いつつ，時間が過ぎていきましたが,ある日，「うたごえ喫茶のび」というＨＰを偶然見つけ，電子音のＢＧＭに合わせ，歌詞を目で追ううちにまたしても号泣…　なんだか，自分が幼い頃の大人たちってみんなあのかあちゃんのように一生懸命だったような気がします。数十年前を久しぶりに思い出し,郷愁の念に駆られ，もうこの耳で美輪さんの歌を聞きたくてたまらなくなり，すぐにＣＤを購入しました。美輪さんの想いが歌いこめられていて，何度聞いても心が揺さぶられます。そして，なんだか元気が出てきます。

結局、人の心に響く歌、長く語り継がれる歌というのは、己の人生からしか生まれないのだろう。
このCD収録の３曲は、まさに100％美輪明宏。彼の人生の縮図がギュっと詰まった内容だ。
特に「ヨイトマケ」の凄さについては、改めて語るまでもないだろう。女の身で工事現場に生き、地ならし作業で日銭を得ていた母の姿を描写した一種の音楽劇であり、日本の歌謡曲におけるリアリズム表現の極地である。
美輪が歌っているのは、決してヨイトマケ労働のつらさ・みじめさではなく、息子の幸せのためなら喜んで肉体労働に身を投じる母の姿、つまり「無償の愛」の表現であり、そこに聴取者は普遍的な感動を感じるのだろう。
平成の今の世にヨイトマケ労働は無いけれど、家族のために早起きして食事や弁当を作る母や、子供へのプレゼントのために残業を引き受ける父は当たり前に存在する。
この曲は、そういった「愛ある人々」への永遠の応援歌であり続けるだろう。

もともとは村上ポンタさんのＣＤに収めたらている　
泉谷しげるさんのカヴァーで聞いたのが最初でした。　
友人にダビングしてもらったものですからそんなに興味もなく
また歌詞カードもありませんでしたので
単純に聞くだけでした。
聞き進むうちに　胸がいっぱいになり
（私の母もまた、貧しい労働者であり、
いじめられて泣きながら帰ったこともありました）
そんなことを思い出すと、今こうして書いていても涙してしまいます。

星5つなどというものではないと思います。
小学校でも　高校でもかまいません
こんな時代だから　改めてこの唄をみんなで歌いたいものです

でも　今の時代には
この唄に描かれている
美しい親子の情は　
もうないのかもしれませんね
