音楽に関してはゴッド・ファーザーより好きです。この映画でモリコーネの名前を知りました。
ただ「アマポーラ」は収録されているが、著作権等の関係からか、映画の冒頭と最後を飾る名曲「ゴッド・ブレス・アメリカ」や時代の移り変わりを効果的に表現した「イエスタディ」が収録されていないのが残念。

ザンフィルのパンフルートは映画の中では効いていますが、
サントラでは少し飽きてしまいます。
なんといってもオーケストラのアマポーラの癒されること、癒されること。
映画ではデボラとヌードルスの再会で使用されていますが、少女時代のデボラ
のアマポーラが大人になって落ち着きを装っていくイメージを踏襲していて、
モリコーネとレオーネの綿密な打ち合わせが読みとれます。

曲同士のつながりも良く、映画回想にも、単独聴取にも大変心地よい名盤です。

ワンス・アポン・ア・タイム・イン・アメリカは、イタリア人の映画監督セルジオ・レオーネが２０世紀というアメリカの世紀をノスタルジックに描いた作品でした。ロバート・デ・ニーロが出演し、公開当事は随分話題になりました。２０世紀初頭から６０年代くらいまでの長い期間を描き、ストリート・チルドレンが仲間と共にのし上ってゆく姿を通してアメリカという国のダイナミズムと矛盾を描いたのではないか、などと感じ入った次第です。この映画の音楽を同じイタリアのエンニオ・モリコーネが担当しています。ノスタルジックなニューヨークのシーン、オーケストレイションされたアマポーラなど音楽だけを聞いていても素晴らしさが伝わってきます。夢と欲望を併せ持ったアメリカにぴったりな音楽です。この作品の中から、ＴＶでも良く使われる曲が何曲かあります。最早スタンダードと言えるかもしれません。映画をご覧になって音楽を聞かれると一段と味わいが深くなると思います。
