4.0 out of 5 stars バンデラス対16人の女たち―初演より若くエネルギッシュ・大人のドラマに流麗な音楽, 2006/2/9
フェデリコ・フェリーニの映画『8 1/2』をもとにしたミュージカル。40歳の映画監督グイード・コンティーニと彼をとり巻く女たちの物語である。
このリバイバル版の魅力は、登場人物がぶつかりあってできたようなエネルギーで、決して悪くない82年の初演版が物足りなく感じるほどだ。
オープニング “Overture delle Donne” などの女たちのコーラスがよい例。均整がとれているのは初演版だが、リバイバル版には喧しいくらいの生気がある。また、キャストの声は初演より全体的に若くなった感じだ。

第一に、グイードを演じるアントニオ・バンデラスの温かみのある甘い声が魅力的だ。
彼が、妻のルイーザ、愛人のカルラ、女優のクラウディア、それぞれに「君さえいれば…」と真剣に愛を訴えるバラード “Only With You” は、その魅力がたっぷり詰まっている。初演の渋いラウル・ジュリアとは違う魅力のグイードである。
それから、女優陣の対比も鮮やか。
妻ルイーザ役のメアリー・スチュアート・マスターソンはやや低めの声で、分別ある大人の女という感じ。愛人カルラを演じるジェーン・クラコフスキーはチャーミングで妖艶。女優クラウディアのラウラ・ベナンティは、端正な美しさのあるソプラノだ。

出色はカルラのジェーン・クラコフスキー。
彼女がグイードに迫るジャジーなナンバー “A Call from the Vatican” は圧巻。息づかい、リズムがオーケストラとうまく絡み合って、最高潮まで盛り上げてから、聞き手をノックアウトする長い高音―緊張が途切れない。

残念なのは、グイードが9歳の時の苦い記憶を歌う “The Bells of St.Sebastian”。
初演版ラウル・ジュリアの ‘Kyrie Eleison’（主よ哀れみ給え）と叫ぶように歌う声が、女声コーラスの上に浮かびあがる、あの美しさと迫力は忘れ難い。リバイバル版ではこの部分をグイードが歌わず、女声コーラスのみで、荘厳さが薄れた感がある。また、オーケストラも初演のほうが、全体的に重厚感があり美しかった。

ともあれ、キャストの魅力とエネルギーは、そのような点を充分補っているだろう。初めて『Nine』を聞くのならこのCDが良いかもしれない。

映画で有名なアントニオ・バンデラスが舞台初主演のもので、
このグイド役は彼にぴったりだと思います。
歌もしっかりと歌えていて。
けれど、流暢なキレイな英語を求める方にはあまり気に入らないかもしれませんが。

しかし、他のキャストもアリーｍｙラブでおなじみのジェーン・クラコフスキーや、「蜘蛛女・・」なんとかっていう一昔前にブロードウェイで上映していた劇の役で大女優の座を射止めたチタ・リベラも非常にパワフル。
しかし、やはり一番驚いたのは、メアリー・スチュワート・マスターソンの、
"Be on your own"という曲で代表されるように、彼女が非常にこんなに美しく歌えることです。
少し好みが分かれる一枚じゃないかな、とは思いますが、全体的にまとまっており、やはり個々のキャラクター存在がはっきりしているので、面白い一枚です。
