   ゴールドフラップの『Black Cherry』は、暗い裏通りに響く音楽だ。都会の怖さに満ち、ディープでエレクトロニックな鼓動音を打ち出す――さわやかなデビュー・アルバム『Felt Mountain』とは大変な違いである。『Felt Mountain』は、リスナーを穏やかにおとぎの世界へと誘う、ユートピアのような音楽で、ポップなパリジャン、小鳥のようにさえずる歌姫、バロック様式の専門家たちが住む世界だった。だが、田園を捨て、ネオンの輝くスタジオを選んだアリソン・ゴールドフラップとウィル・グレゴリーは、激しさと閉所恐怖症的な（しかし、エネルギッシュで官能的な）憂うつさを『Felt Mountain』に吹きこんだ。

   流麗にしてメカニカルな「Train」を始めとするトラックは、そのインダストリアルな激しいリズムにより、ゴールドフラップをあの病的なエレクトロ・クラッシュ・シーンに危険なほど接近させており、なまめかしくダウンビートな「Black Cherry」や、気だるくドリーミーな「Forever」へと向かおうとする流れを断ち切ってしまう。その他の曲に目を向けると、人間の声というものを賛美しているかのような「Twist」では、アリソンがディープかつダークな歌声を聴かせ、ゴールドフラップは叙情性からクラフトワーク的なシンセ・サウンドを駆使した荒々しいドライヴ感への脱皮を見せる。

この三つの単語に即反応してしまった方には絶対オススメです！
ソフト・セルらの８０年代のアーティストにさらにヨーロッパ的な耽美さと浮遊感、クールさがプラスされたようで、文句なしに重厚でかっこいいサウンド。

それから、クララ・ボウやマレーネ・ディートリッヒ、メアリー・ピックフォードなどの２０年代の映画女優を彷彿とさせるアリソンのメイクやビジュアル。ゴスロリとはまた異なる２０年代風ロリータ！！これが新鮮でカワかっこいいです。
８０年代のキラキラしたポップな可愛さと２０年代の退廃的、コケティッシュの融合した独特の世界観。

たとえビジュアル目当てで買っても全く損はないです！！！

felt mountainの衝撃が忘れれられず、このアルバムも買ってみましたが…
むむむ、ちょっと期待外れでした。

前作はビョークやケイトブッシュのような女性の情念を前面に打ち出した
楽曲が、ジャケットにあるようなダークで美しい雪の山を頭に浮かばせてくれる至高の一品でした。

が、今回のアルバムは前作の「憂鬱なエレクトロニカ」とは真逆の
「ポップな踊れるテクノ」といった印象が強すぎて、なんだか呆然としてしまいました。

ってのが、最初の感想です。
次に思ったのが、「８０年頃のエレクトロポップ…？つーか、マテリアルガールのマドンナ路線？」
…そういうものとして割り切ってしまえば良い楽曲なのですが、私は期待外れ感を否めません。
前作「Felt Mountain」の持っていた雰囲気、雪夜の幻想や、深い色のビロードのような高級感、倦怠と哀愁に絡んだ密やかなエロスなんかは、どこへやら…。
一転して、ビニロン地の販促キャンペーンガールの服に身を包み街頭で試供品を配ってるかのような印象なのです。（ヘンな表現でスマン…）

前作の面影を継承しているのは退廃的なヴィジュアルだけで、曲の方はポップ色が前面に出過ぎてて…う~む…。
或いは、GOLDFRAPP的には、多様性を追求するひとつの実験だったんでしょうか…？
結論として、決して悪くは無いけど、私はGOLDFRAPPに、こういうものを求めてはいなかったようです。
