1枚目は『Retrospective』と題されたベスト・アルバム。1991年発売のミニ・アルバム『Apricots』から1999年発売の4枚目のアルバム『Snowbug』までの曲を各アルバムから割とまんべんなく選曲・編集している。明かにアルバム単位で製作しているHigh Llamasなので、正直言うと大して期待していなかったベスト盤だったが、なかなか楽しませてくれる編集になっている。

2枚目『Rarities & Instrumental』はシングル収録曲や普段は注目される事のないインスト曲などを1枚にまとめたもの。未発表曲は『Cold And Bouncy』のアウトテイク「Vampo Brazil」1曲のみ。未発表曲をガンガン収録してほしかったのは確かだが、あちこちにバラバラに収録されていた曲をまとめて手軽に聴く事ができるようにしているのは嬉しいところだ。

ハイラマズにとって、初のベスト盤は２枚組31曲で、たっぷりと彼らの描く桃源郷を味わうことができる好盤となっている（2003年作）。

ハイラマズというと、1stを除いて、曲がそれぞれつながりを持ちながらアルバム一枚になっているので、ベストとなるとその辺のつながりがうまくいかないのではないかと危惧したが、選曲の妙なのだろうまるでこれはこれで完成されたアルバムのようにスムーズに聴く事ができた。それはレアトラックを含むDISC2にも言えて、インストはアルバムからの知ってる曲が多かったけど、それらを絶妙に挟むことで別のアルバムのように新鮮に聴くことができた。各オリジナルアルバムを知った後でも、知る前でもそんなに変わりなくちゃんと通して聴けるというのはすごいと思う。まあ初体験であれば、感動の度合いは違うかもしれないが。
唯一の誤算は、レアトラックが思ったよりずっと少なかったことだろうか。特にレアトラックと明記しないほうがいいような気もした。

ハイラマズ・ファンのみなさま、無人島に持って行くアルバムをひとつだけ選べと言われたら、困ってしまいますよね？だって、ハイラマズのアルバムはどれをとっても一枚一枚が素晴らしいから。

そこで、このアルバム。2CDに31曲びっしりと、あなたのお気に入りだけでなく、未発表曲も３曲程（個人的に初めてきく曲をカウントしただけですので、厳密ではないです）入っており、これらも又素晴らしい！

ハイラマズ初心者の方に最適であるだけでなく、永年のファンをも喜ばす一枚です。
