今までのスターオーシャンシリーズのアレンジアルバムは、オリジナル曲をさらにヴァージョンアップさせたというような感じで、ゲームでは出せない作曲者が望んでいた音をアレンジ版として出している感じだったのですが、今回はオリジナル曲の時点でオーケストラや生バンドの演奏を使っていたため、すでに完成されていたというか、これ以上ヴァージョンアップできないような状態だったため、オリジナルと比べてあまり変化がなかったような気がしました。もちろん曲自体はすばらしい曲が多いのですが、アレンジ版としての面白さはあまりなかったと思います。せっかく作曲者自身がアレンジしてアルバムを出すのですから、もっとじっくり時間をかけて作ってほしかったと思います。

プレステ2のゲーム「スターオーシャン3」のサントラ。2003作
荘厳なイントロに続き、バンド演奏が始まるやのっけからたたみかける変拍子、雄大なオーケストレーション、
ときにELPかUKかというアンサンブルを見せながら、起伏に富んだ曲が織りなされてゆく。
断じて言おう。シンフォニック・プログレ者を喜ばす全てがここにある。
これはゲームサントラなどではない。素晴らしいクオリティと密度のシフォニックロック作品だ。
壮大なシンフォニックプログレ作品が好きな方は買いに走るべきだ。

他の方が書かれているように原曲が既に完成形なので、アレンジしてあっても曲としてのレベルがあまり変わりません。それと、変わり映えしないもう一つの要因として、シャキッと終る曲が無い。アレンジアルバムを買われる方の求める要素の一つだと思うのですが…。どれもラストを盛り下げていって終る感じなので、通常サントラのフェードアウトと大差無いのです。

それ以前に、選曲自体が微妙なんです。通常サントラから好きな曲を人気投票したとして、どれも上位に入るような曲ではない。残念ながら、いくつか持ってるアレンジサントラで最も聴かないCDになってます。
