何度聴いても飽きないんですよ、このアルバム。
私は元々スガシカオのファンではありません。このＣＤはちょうど気に入っていた「アシンメトリー」ヤ「サヨナラ」が入っていたので買いました。最初の曲を聴いたときから何か変わっていて不思議だなあとは感じていたんですけど、最後の曲まで完全に「聴かされて」しまった後に歌詞カードを見てその理由がわかりました。この人の不思議な存在感や魅力というのは少し変わった歌詞で表現されるその世界にあるのだな、と。
みじめだったり情けなかったり非常に悲しい状況だったりしても、シカオさんの曲に載せられた言葉たちは悲壮さをなくし、ユーモアすら醸し出し始めます。かといってメッセージ性を前面に押し出すこともなく、曲は自己完結、あるいは劇の途中を切り取ったような形で終わってしまい、聴いている私は取り残されてしまいます。これって自己を突き放し気味の私小説に似ています。同時に、非常にうまい短編小説のような醍醐味があるのです。なるほど飽きるはずがない。
シカオさんは感受性が豊かなだけでなく、言葉のセンスもある。日常を見つめる鋭い視線もある。
実はまだこれ以外のアルバムを持っていないのですが、早速明日にでも買ってこようと思っています。

『ＳＭＩＬＥ』というアルバムタイトルが発表されたとき、「ダサい」「それはまずい」と思った。それは、とうとうスガシカオまでもが流行のポップ路線に進んでしまうのかと失望したからだ。

しかし発売日にＣＤを手に取りおそるおそるステレオにかけてみたところ、意外にも地味な印象。ポップではないことに安心はしたが、良いとも悪いとも判断しかねた。ただ妙にクセのあるリズムが気になった。

このアルバムの物凄さを実感したのは翌日のこと。

一度聞き流しただけなのに、全ての曲調が体に染み込んでいた。ＣＤを流してみると前日とはうってかわってノレるようになっていた。これはファンクだ、と思った。素晴らしい。
そして「あのニブイくそ野郎」「謎の壺」「英会話の教材」といった歌詞を使い!ながらも決してコミックソングにさせず、さらりと軽妙洒脱に仕上げる力量も相変わらず健在。

優れた楽曲、綺麗なジャケットワーク、そして個人的に爆笑したディスク盤面の、のけぞるスガシカオ。星５つの評価に加えて、座布団も一枚プラスしたい気分。傑作です。

バブル全盛期に思春期を迎えていた私にとって、金満主義を高々と掲げる大人は全員、カッコ悪い種族だと思っていたので、自分の中に「こういう男になりたい」というイメージ像がそれまであまり浮かばなかったのですが、今でもそう思うのだから、きっと十代の頃にこの人を知っていたら、「こういう大人の男になりたい！」と叫んでいた事でしょう。

「この曲が凄い！」っていうインパクトを感じるポイントは個人的には無かったのですが、肩の力の抜けた、ゆらりとしたクールさが全体的に流れていて、車の運転中や、何かをしながら聴くのに最適なアルバムかと。
オマケもいい感じです。
