   2001年冬に放送され、高視聴率をあげた中居正広主演の連続ドラマ「白い影」のスペシャル版。レギュラー放送で描かれた天才外科医の人生の終末から時をさかのぼって、主人公の知られざる過去が明かにされる。
   理想の医療現場を求めて、大学の恩師七瀬（山本學）が院長を務める信州の病院に転勤した直江（中居正広）。絶望的な疾患をわずらう少女を救おうと、彼女の治療に全力を注ぐ直江だったが、そのとき彼自身の体にも異変が起きはじめていた…。
   直江はなぜあれほどまでにかたくなになってしまったのか、という問いに対して、明確に答えてくれるこのアナザーストーリー。その挫折に焦点を絞った潔さが、泣けるドラマとしての魅力に更なる真実味を与えている。マーラー、ラフマニノフ、プッチーニの名曲にのせて、直江の精神的苦悩を中居正広が大熱演。（麻生結一）

通常連ドラのスペシャルというのは、番外編のような作りか、連ドラのその後というものが多いのですが、これは時間を逆行した作りです。つまりこのスペシャルがあって、その後に連ドラに続いていくというものです。直江庸介役の中居さんは連ドラ当時より二歳年をとっているにもかかわらず、二歳若い時代を演じています。それを全く違和感なく演じ、見事に二年前の本編につないでいます。この物語のすばらしさは原作の持つヒューマニズムもさながら、映像、音楽の透き通るような美しさ、他の番組では見られないような、中居さんの繊細な美しさにあると思います。スペシャルとしてこれだけ完成された作品は類を見ないでしょう。あらゆる点で、非常に質の高いドラマと言えると思います。

ともかくどの俳優さんも最高！とくに中居君の恩師役の山本学さんの演技が涙を誘います！全編、雪景色の映像もとてもきれいです！！若くして亡くなってしまう、女の子の儚い恋に懸命に答えようとする中居君扮する、直江先生の優しさにも切なくなります。このドラマを見ると小さな事でくよくよ悩んでいるのが恥ずかしくなるというか...生きているだけで素晴らしいなあ、と思うドラマです！

放送終了後からずっと待ち望んでいたスペシャルがやっと発売になります。
あいかわらずの美しい映像と、スタッフの皆さんのこのドラマへの熱い思いが伝わる素晴らしい出来栄えのドラマです。
本編とあわせて見ると感慨もひとしおというところでしょうか。中居さんの演技も見もの。表情が凄いです。

ファンはモチロンですが、これだけで見ても充分に感動できる、完成度の高いお話になっています。号泣間違いなし！お勧めです。
