   レッチリがついにブレイクしたアルバムが『Mother's Milk』だ。ファンク、ラップ、メタルを大胆にミックスするというお得意の手法を充分に洗練させ、多くのリスナーを魅了する結果となったのは、これが初めてだった。とはいえ、昔からのファンを失望させない程度に荒々しさも残している。レッチリがキレを失ったことなど1度としてない。だから、スティーヴィー・ワンダーの「Higher Ground」というモロにメインストリーム系の曲をカヴァーしようと、それがこのアルバムを代表するシングルになろうと、何の傷にもならなかったのだ。その「Higher Ground」はもちろんのこと、それ以外の収録曲（「Knock Me Down」や、むらむらするような「Sexy Mexican Maid」など）も、正真正銘のペッパー風味。アンソニー・キーディスの食ってかかるようなボーカルからフリーのおしゃべりなベースに至るまで、すべてがピリッときまっている。『Mother's Milk』は、ギターのジョン・フルシアンテが初参加したアルバムでもあった。ここでの彼は輝いており、とりわけジミ・ヘンドリックスのカヴァー「Fire」は熱演だ。（Michael Ruby, Amazon.com）

私がこのアルバムを買ったのは、もうかれこれ11年前。生まれて初めて自分のお金で買った洋楽のCDという思い入れがあることを差し引いても、すごく良いアルバムです。ハイヤーグラウンドなんて原曲がスティービーワンダーだってこと全く感じさせないくらい自分たちのものにしちゃってるし、今でこそミクスチャーってあちこちで聞くけど、この人たちが原点なのよって、10年以上前のアルバムを持って言えるのってスゴイ。個人的にはノックミーダウンが好きです。総合的にみてもファンクロック色の濃い、レッチリの元祖って感じです。とりあえずこのアルバムを聴かなきゃレッチリは語れませんよ。

やっぱり上手い。かなりまとまっていて、この頃が一番好き。
ベースもスラップバキバキでかなり飛ばしている。
ジョンもかなりナイスな泣きのギターでたまらん。
レッチリ最高！！！
