素敵だなと思わせられる、そんな一枚。私の一生もののひとつに加わっています。
コルトレーンのサックスに重なるハートマンの声・・・渋くて甘くて本当に素敵。深いため息が出る。痺れます。極上のひとときが味わえること間違えありません。
拙いレビューで、うまく伝えることができませんが、この二人に惹かれる人は好きになるのではないでしょうか？

テナー・サックスは男性の肉声に近いとよく言われるがコルトレーンとジョニー・ハートマンほど相性のよい組みあわせはそうざらにないだろう。ハートマンのつややかなバリトンボイスはコルトレーンの濃密なトーンとマッチしメロウな大人のジャズの世界に誘う。20歳以下立ち入り禁止の張り紙が要りそうな成熟した雰囲気はまさにジャズの真骨頂であろう。バラード、エリントンとの競演盤といい、リラックスしたコルトレーンのよさが十分引き出された傑作盤だが、中でもこのアルバムは最高のバラード集だといえるであろう。

「バラード」「コルトレーンとエリントン」「コルトレーンとジョニー・ハートマン」はまちがいなくインパルス・レーベル時代のコルトレーンの３大傑作だ。「マイ・ワン・アンド・オンリー・ラブ」「ラッシュ・ライフ」などの名曲をハートマンが独特の甘い声で歌う。ハートマンにとっても傑作の一枚。ほかにもハートマンはインパルス・レーベルから３枚リリースしているがそれらも最高の出来。１９６３年録音なので４０年も前のアルバムだが、いささかも古びていない。これぞ名盤。（松本敏之）
