最初に聴いたのは御茶ノ水のジャズ喫茶『響』。かれこれ20年前です。
ひたすらジャズ・オルガンを弾きまくるジミー・スミス。何となく今までに無いタイプのジャズだなぁと思った覚えがあります。

懐かしいなぁ。

オルガンの　御大　ジミー･スミスの　代表作！
とにかく　上手い　！
スイング感　抜群で　誰にも　真似　できません。
レジスト　も　いかにも　ジャズ　です！！！
とにかく　脱帽　！！！

アルバムタイトルともなっている「THE　CAT」は
ゴージャスなホーンセクションが鳴らす強烈なイントロで始まり、
次にJ．スミスが息つく間もないほどの速さで
オルガンを弾きまくっています。
ガハハ！と笑いながら弾いていそうで、聴きながらニヤリとしてしまう。

泥臭さがあるのに、どこか洗練されているラロ・シフリンの

曲風はいつもクールでカッコイイ！
