町内会の大掃除から帰ってきたら届いてました。ハルゼミの声が響いてくるリビングで、ビール片手にさっそく聴いてみました。コルトレーンは初めてに近いので何がどうだとは言えませんが、メロディが透明な空気の中に滑り込むように溶けては消えていく感じです。なんだかいろいろなことが思い出されて、そのひとつひとつがくっきりと浮かび上がり、今という時間の中で自分が蘇ってくるのが実感できました。ひさしぶりに良いものに出会った出会った気分です。

コルトレーンというと、真っ先に、激しくブローする姿が浮びますが、バラードにも数多い名演を残しています。これは、そのようなバラードのスタンダード曲のみからなるアルバムで、人気投票をすると、ＪＡＺＺ全体のＴＯＰ１０、コルトレーン物の中ではＴＯＰ１になることが多いアルバムです。

コルトレーンのバラード演奏の特徴としては、哀しいバラードになるのではなく、ロングトーンを活かした美しいバラードに仕上げるということでしょうか。また、ｐのマッコイターナーを始めとして、ｂのジミーギャリソン、dsのエルヴィンジョーンズもコルトレーンのＳＡＸを盛り上げる渋い味を出しています。

聴き応えがあるだけでなく、スタンダード曲が多く、聴き易いアルバムでもあり、これからＪＡＺＺを聴きたいという方にもお奨めのアルバムです。

１曲目のSAY IT　からすべてが最高です。
時代を超えるとはこの事かなと、思ってしまいました。
