変わったピアノなのです。モンクのような明らかに変態チックな不可思議さではなく、アンサンブルや独特の低音を強調させたタッチ、オクターブ奏法を含めたトータルでの聴感がコレハオカシイ・コレハヘンダと脳に囁かせるのです。JAZZ特有のあのノリに身を委ねていると突然置いてきぼりにされたりするのです。でも、オカシイ・ヘンダと感じてもそれ以上にモットキキタイと脳が要求してくるのです。

３１歳の若さで夭折した天才ピアニストの、ただ一枚のリーダーアルバムにして最高の出来のアルバム。ピアニストのエディ・コスタはあまり知られていないが、タル・ファーローのバックをよく務めたことでも知られる。ビル・エヴァンスのような際だった個性はないが、自分のスタイルを確立しつつある時期に夭折したのは悔やまれる。生きていれば数多くの名作を残したにちがいない。「マイ・ファニー・ヴァレンタイン」もあまり情緒に流されずに独自の解釈を見せている。こんな「渋い」アルバムはレコードからＣＤに変わった本国アメリカでも再発売されていない。さすがジャズ大国日本である。（松本敏之）
