2001年2月ウィーンで録音。僕の記憶ではウィーン・フィルと組んでこのマーラーの第3番を振った指揮者はブーレーズで3人目である。あとの二人はクラウディオ・アバドとロリン・マゼール。この3つの演奏を時間で比較してみると以下のようになる。

アバド1980年9月19・26日録音　　　　34:17→9:29→16:57→10:43→4:30→26:38
マゼール1985年4月18・19日録音　　　36:52→11:42→18:19→9:21→4:20→29:51
ブーレーズ2001年2月録音　　　　　　 33:34→9:27→16:38→9:17→4:05→22:22

6楽章全てにおいてブーレーズの演奏が最も速いということが分かる。ただ聴いてみると決して速いなぁとは感じない。むしろ気持ちよく時間が過ぎていくちょうど良い速さで心地よい。僕の一番好きな演奏だ。

私見だがハイドン・モーツアルトに始まり百余年を経た『交響曲』というものはこのマーラーの第3番で完成したと思える。何しろ大編成、Pi:(2); Fl:4; Ob:4; Eh:(1); Cl:5; Bcl:(1); Fg:3; Cfg:(1); Hr:8; Tp:5; Tb:4; Tub:1; Timp; Perc; Hp:2; Str; Alt; Choir(s,a,knaben)である。夢のように繋がるこの大交響曲に浸るとき何時もそう思う。

まず、録音について書くが、この盤は外ジャケットにオリジナルの録音が
96khz/24bitPCMとあり、ライナーの方には48kHz/24bitPCMとある。
あきらかにミスプリントだが、どちらが正しいのか？　
翌年同ホールで録音されたキャプラン指揮の第２交響曲の録音
(こちらは96kHz/24bitと表記)と比較検討するに、
このブーレーズのレコードは、低音域の制動は良いが、
SACDのわりには高音の伸びがさほどでは無いこと等を考えると、
ライナーにある48kHz/24bitPCM録音が正解なのではないかと、筆者は思う。
なかなかDSD録音機を導入しないDGだが、PCMデジタルと違い、
DSD及びSACDは録音から家庭にレコードが届くまでの構成がシンプルで
劣化や変化が少ないのが”ウリ”なのに、現在のDGの様にオリジナルを
PCMで録り、あとでDSDにデジタル信号を変換(デコード)すると、
このPCMデジタル→DSDに変換する、デコーダのソフトの性能・クセに音質が
大きく依存してしまう。将来、このデコーダで革新的なものが出てきた時に
また「リマスタリング盤」とか言って買い直しをまたまたさせられる気が・・・

演奏は素晴らしい。正直、筆者はCBS時代の若き日の”きれまくってた”ブーレーズの
方が好きなのだが、この作品に関しては今のブーレーズの方が合っているのだろう。
このところ何枚か集中してこのマーラー第３交響曲のSACDのレコードを聴く機会が
あったのだが、その中でもやはり頭ひとつ出ていると思う。
理由はやはりウィーンフィルだ。今や特別な性能と”音楽性”を維持している楽団は
世界でもこの楽団だけなのではないだろうか？
さらに花を添えているのはV.オッターの歌唱が聴ける事だ。
安心してお薦めできる一枚。満点にしなかったのはDSD録音ではないから。

ブーレーズー、ウィーンフィルでの秀逸版であることは言うまでもないが、ＳＡＣＤのアドバンテージが明瞭に聴こえる演奏。長時間の作品であるが、いつ聴いても　心が揺さぶられる名盤です。

　ＳＡＣＤ愛好家であれば、必携の盤であると思います。
