NYでのライヴ録音。お客が酒を飲みながらピザレリの演奏を満喫している、その寛ぎの雰囲気が伝わってくる。粋なソフト・ヴォイス。ギターが突然凄い速弾きをすると、おお、という感じで首を振りながら乗って聴いてる、その感じも伝わる。こういうのナマで聴きたい。

いいとこ取りもここまで筋の通ったオリジナリティに持ち込めば、文句のつけようがない。声質こそ違えど、ヴォーカル・パートが反響させるのは、ナット・キング・コールの良質なエンタテインメントだ。これまで2枚の作品で、先達に深い畏敬の念を送ってきたのは知られる通り。それが今や、憎らしいほど板についてきた。その一方、インストの場面が浮かべるのは、レトロでも色褪せないオリジナル・オスカー・ピーターソン・トリオの味だ。するとつまり、音楽のある部分は20世紀中盤で止まっていると言えなくもないが、しかし、ジョンがそこに吹きかけた蘇生の息は効果てき面、クラスターのかたちだけ残してその働きを変えてしまった。どちらのクローンでもない芸能の出現でもある。クラブ・ライヴを2枚組で出してくる気概もうなずける。変に加工を施したら、ショウケースのガラスが曇ってしまったろう。長めのトークが冗漫に聞こえないのもお膝元ならでは。トリオ結成10周年記念作品でもある。 (成田正) --- 2003年05月号
