アリソン・クラウス、マルティナ・マクブライド、アール・スクラグッス、エミルーハリス、ティム・オブライアン、ジェリー・ダグラス、デル・マッコリー、ギリアン・ウエルチ、リッキー・スキャグス、ジェフ・ホワイト等とアイリシュトラッドのチーフタンズセッション。アイリシュ・ダンスも見られるし、一連のアイリッシュものとも趣向が違い、ブルーグラス･フェスものより音楽の練り上げも良くて気持のいいＤＶＤです。曲がいいのでＣＤが欲しくなりました。ＤＶＤは曲間のおしゃべりが少し多いのがちょっとじゃまかも。蛇足ですがアリソン･クラウスは痩せてとてもきれいになりました。リージョン・フリー。

アイリッシュ・トラッド・ミュージックの重鎮チーフタンズ。ヴァン・モリソンの「アイリッシュ・ハートビート」での共演から知ったのだが、映像で見るのは今回初めて。このＤＶＤは、アメリカのブルーグラス、カントリー系のミュージシャンをゲストに、2002年に制作された彼らの結成40周年記念アルバム「ダウン・ジ・オールド・プランク・ロード」の発表にあわせて行われたコンサートを記録したもの。カントリー・ミュージックのメッカ、ナッシュビルで、アルバムのゲスト達を招いてのライブがタップリ2時間楽しめる。
収録当時のメンバーは、パディ・モローニ（イーリアンパイプ、ティンホイッスル）、マット・モロイ（フルート）、ケヴィン・コネフ（ボーラン、ヴォーカル）、ショーン・ケーン（フィドル）、デレク・ベル（ハープ、ピアノ）。デレク・ベルは直後の2002年10月に亡くなっており、ＤＶＤは追悼盤になっている。
ブルーグラスやカントリーには全く疎いので、「豪華ゲスト」といわれてもエミルー・ハリスとジョン・ハイアットしか知らないのでどうかなと思ったが、いやすごいすごい！！チーフタンズももちろん素晴らしいが、ゲストやバッキング・ミュージシャン達がまたみんな楽器も歌も舌をまく巧さ！！トラディショナルな音楽の世界はやっぱり奥深い。アパラチア山脈付近に住んだアイルランド系移民の音楽が、「マウンテン・ミュージック」と呼ばれ、アフリカ系の音楽と出会ってカントリー・ミュージックのルーツの一つとなり、さらにブルースと結びついてロックンロールが誕生するわけだが、そういう背景を知らなくても音楽そのものがものすごく楽しい。最後は例のリバー・ダンスの元になったアイリッシュ・ダンスまで見れて、すっかりいい気分になってしまう。
