メビウス、バルギスと続いた「ボスキャラによる１話１作戦」がバルギスの最期と共に３クールで終わり、この巻の４０話から「ガロス」たちの登場とともに「１話１ボスキャラ」的ストーリーとなる。主題歌も子門真人の絶叫から児童合唱団のほのぼの系に、エンドタイトルの副主題歌は逆に新要塞スーパーファイブを謳い上げたハードなものに変更。更にタイトルそのものが「ゼロテスター　地球を守れ！」と変更され、挙句今度は２号が「２号要塞」に改造されて登場するなど、今見返してみると、このＢＯＸに収録された回だけで別個の作品世界を形成しているような状態になっている。２回に分かれた形の最終回もスケールの大きさを描ききった秀作だと思う。

ところで、このＢＯＸのブックレットにはデザイン担当の宮武一貴氏のインタビューが収録されているが、１号のコックピット周りのデザインの暴露話が大変興味深かった。個人的には「ああ、やっぱり……」というところ。
