   1983年度のNHK朝の連続テレビ小説として放送され、日本中の涙をしぼり取るほどの爆発的人気を得た国民的ドラマ。第1巻となる「少女編」では、本作で天才子役として名を馳せた小林綾子が演じたおしんの少女時代にあたる第36話までを完全収録。
   明治40年、雪に覆われた山形の貧しい農家に生まれ育った少女・おしん。家族と暮らしていれば幸せだったが、その家族が生きていくため、わずか6歳にして材木問屋に奉公に出ることに。だが、奉公先での理不尽な仕打ちに耐えかね、彼女は吹雪の中を歩き始める。そして助けられた先で出会う与謝野晶子の詩。まだ冒頭でしかない部分ではあるが、この少女編のみ後に同一キャストで劇場用アニメーションとして制作されたことからも小林おしんの人気のほどが伺える。（田中 元）

1983年~1984年NHKで放送された、橋田壽賀子脚本による戦前・戦中・戦後を力強く生きた女性の波乱の生涯を描いた名作ドラマ「おしん」をDVD化。今作では少女編として第1~36話収録。出演は小林綾子、泉ピン子、伊東四朗、大橋吾郎ほか。

有事立法、教育問題、その他現代日本がかかえる多くの課題がある今、この作品はそれがドラマ化された頃の状況とは異なっているにもかかわらず、全く色あせることなく私たちに訴えるテーマを持った素晴らしい作品だと思います。もう一度近代日本が歩んできた道を振り返り、今後への示唆を含んだ作品だと思います。是非、多くの人に、特に政治家には見てもらいたいと思います。さらに、次代を担う中高校生や若者に、その保護者の方々にも見て頂きたいと思います。この作品が国外、特に途上国で絶賛されたことは十分に納得出来ることです。何度見ても、感動させられる秀逸で含蓄のある作品です。

NHK朝ドラとして作成され平均視聴率が50%を超えたという稀有な作品。その後何回も再放送され、いずれも視聴率は軽く20%を超えていた記憶がある。その理由は、おしんのどんな苦境に立たされても明るさを失わない姿勢が、いつの時代であっても私たちに「前向きに生きること」の大切さを教えてくれているからだろう。少女編は1980年代に作成されたが、内容は示唆的で含蓄があり、現在でも「古さ」は全くない。

おしんは、その後シリーズ化されたが、少女編が特に良く、子役の圧倒的な演技力と独特の緊張感が見る者に深い感動を引き起こす。夏休みや冬休みに親子で見たい素晴らしい作品。星は文句なく5個。お勧め！
