高田みづえと言えば、サザン等のカバーを多くしたというイメージが強いのでオリジナリティーがそれだけ希薄という見方もできるけど、この時代でしか高田みづえだからこそ聴き応えのある楽曲が豊富だという風にも感じる。カバーには「二番煎じ」というイメージが付きまといがちだけど、彼女の楽曲はその多くでオリジナルを上回った品質がある。もちろん歌唱力然りだろうが、演歌調やニューミュージック向きの愁いある声質というのもポイントかもしれない。時代は少々づれるけど、同じ好例として柏原芳恵もそうだと思う。後者は中島みゆきに認められた稀有な歌手だったし、高田みづえにしても村下孝蔵、千春、桑田云々　いわゆる当時のニューミュージックを代表する、しかも自身に信念を持った歌手ばかりなので、それなりに条件を満たした歌手じゃないと提供しないはずで、そう考えると最近流行のカバーとは全く別次元の充足感を感じる訳です。

７０年代後半〜８０年代初期に邦楽で隆盛を誇ったフォーク、ニューミュージックの台頭と稀有なボーカルを持つ彼女が偶然出会った最初で最後の楽曲群と考えると、とても素晴らしいです。

７０年代後半のアイドルというジャンルで括られるとは思いますが、ニューミュージックフォークシンガーのＣＤを聴いているような上質さを感じるのもまた魅力ではないでしょうか。

高田みづえが引退してもう２０年くらいになるだろうか。久しぶりに彼女の歌声を聴いたけど、やはり心に沁みる。特に「チャイナライツ」や「原宿メモリー」は滅多に聴く機会がなかった分、感激した。ＴＶで見た引退コンサートの映像が、スパンコール姿の彼女の映像が甦ってきた。

彼女がデビューした頃僕は中学生です。
当時はとりあえずあたれば良いのだからと言う感じでアイドルがどんどん
出てきました。今ではもうすっかりおじさんで、当時親が言っていた「皆同じ
顔に見える」の一言をついついいってしまうこの頃です。。。

やはりなんと言っても彼女の魅力は歌の上手さ！

そんな魅力を満載しているアルバムではないでしょうか？
しかしこのマイページで見たときはビックリしました。
こんなＣＤ出るわけ無い！と思ってたし。。。
一つ欲しかったのは、”南南西”知ってる人しか知らないかも・・・
アルバムに入っていた意外と知られていない好きな曲です。
