劇場で最初に観た時は、前半の目まぐるしい展開に驚いたが(劇場内でどよめきが起きた程)
今思えば、時間を長くして詰め込んで前作のようにする事なく、減量や金竜飛関係のシークエンスをばっさりと切り、ホセ戦に絞った構成は良かったと思う。
映画は飛躍だと思う。何を見せて、何を見せないか。
ただ、テレビを素材とせず、映画として完全オリジナル新作でやってほしかった。
DVDはニュープリント、スクイーズ収録で、LD版と比べても発色も良いと思います。ただ、暗いシーンでの色ニジミが気になるかな。
音声は、後期LD版の擬似ステレオ音声(試合シーンのみ)を採用。オリジナルはモノラルなので、そちらも収録してほしかった。
いずれにしても、不朽の名作。必見です。

この作品は1981年に劇場公開されたものだとパッケージに記載されていた。
今年40になる私にとって、あしたのジョーは少年時代に強烈な印象を与えた映画でした。思春期のあの頃、まっすぐな生き方だとか、何かに夢中になるとか、いろいろなことを考えていた時に出会った矢吹丈。
あれから25年以上が過ぎ気がつけば40歳、主人公ジョーと同じ年代だった私も今では丹下段平に近い歳か（？）
この間、いくつもの映画を観、日々責任が増す仕事をこなし、そして新しい生活とともに記憶から薄れていた「あしたのジョー」
購入したＤＶＤで蘇るジョーが、主題歌が、セリフが、25年以上経った今でもはっきりと脳裏に口に記憶されている。
この映画が与えた影響は、今でも私の生き方に現れているように思う。
きっと同じように影響を受けた人も数多くいるのでは・・・
忘れられない名作、永久保存版かな。
