   ページ記述言語はLIPS4に対応しているので、LIPS系ページプリンタが欲しい人にとっては貴重な選択肢の一つとなるだろう。標準で持っているインターフェースはセントロニクスパラレルとUSBのみだが、オプションで機種を問わずに各種パソコンをネットワーク接続できるプリントサーバユニットが用意されている。また、スタンプ印刷やポスター印刷、ジョブの結合などプリンタドライバレベルで提供されている機能が豊富に搭載されている。

このクラスのプリンターは、どうしてもエプソンの同価格帯製品と競合するので迷ってしまいます。わたしは迷った末に1420を選びました。決めては線の細さ。どちらのプリンターも見る機会があったのですが、フォントの細い線が1420はとても綺麗にでています。印刷された原稿にパッと見のスッキリ感がありました。Ｅ社のライバルはどうしても太く濃いめに文字が出てくるので、書類の字が重く感じます。ここは、好みかもしれませんが。

　標準で付いてくるトナーがＥ社より大容量タイプなのも○。しかし、このプリンタはメモリ増設がメチャクチャ高い。データ量が重い仕事で使う人はメモリ増設をサードパーティ製メモリで行えるＥ社製がよいかも。ネットワークボードも高いのですが、ＩＯデータなどの安いプリ!ントサーバでMacもWinも無事つながりました。印字品質のキャノンか、コストと速さのエプソンかで決めて下さい。
