   映画『デアデビル』のサウンドトラック盤は、それまで無名だったアーカンソー州リトル・ロック出身のこの4人組にとって格好の起爆剤となった。エヴァネッセンスの手がけた曲、「My Immortal」と印象的な「Bring Me to Life」は、映画の中でも明らかに際立っていた。物語の基調となる劇的で不気味な雰囲気をうまくとらえていたのが勝因だろう。そのエヴァネッセンスが、今度はデビュー・アルバムで再登場。やはり沈んだトーンのトラックが多く、トーリ・エイモスやクランベリーズといったメランコリックなアーティストたちを引き合いに出したくなる。ヴォーカルのエイミー・リーは、何週間も眠れなくなりそうな声を聴かせるが、「Tourniquet」や「Haunted」のような曲では違和感がある。これらの曲は、不吉なムードと同じぐらい強い精神性を持っており、嵐の中にいくばくかの光を投げかける思慮深さを感じさせるからだ。（Aidin Vaziri, Amazon.com）

１ｓｔなんだから、デアデビルのおかげでＴｏｐ５まで上がれた、
なんて思ってました、正直、僕は最初ジャケットのほうが気になって、
きいた訳なんですが、チープな女声かと思いきや、
分厚い声量とベースのＧｏｉｎｇ　Ｕｎｄｅｒを聞いたとたん、
あんぐりものでした、パワー、ずしずし伝わってくるんだけど、

決して嫌にはならないサウンド、それを通すのかと思うと、
テレビ聞いたナンバーやら、ピアノの音とヴォーカルが際立ったもの、
なんだろうか、とにかくミックスされている、
個人的には厚い声のヴォーカルがサウンドをうまく聞きやすいものにしてくれているように思える、
これは期待の一作。

MTVでBRING ME TO LIFEを聞いて、即行でEVANESCENCEについて調べて
CD買いました！ボーカルの声が良いのと、音の重さが心地良い！
聞く価値大有りです！

5.0 out of 5 stars 早くも今年度デビューのロックバンドＮＯ．１！, 2003/5/3
とにかく「スゴイ！」の一言である。
完成度が高く、ハードな曲からメロディアスな曲まで、
実に幅広く要領良く収められたヘヴィロックのアルバムである。

やはり、この作品でまず最初に聞くのは、
２曲目の Bring Me To Life であろう。
映画『デアデビル』の挿入歌として有名な曲である。
また、４曲目の My Immortal 辺りも、ピアノの入ったスローな曲

であるため、最初は聴きやすい曲であろう。
５曲目の Haunted などは、まさにホーンテッドな妖しく幻想的な
雰囲気を醸し出しているし、
７曲目の Imaginary や９曲目の Hello などは、
非常にメロディアスなナンバーでおススメである。
これらは女性ボーカル Ａｍｙ Ｌｅｅ の伸びやかで
透明感のある声なしには魅力が半減してしまう曲であろう。

そして、それら以外の曲は比較的ハードコアな音源の曲が多いが、
いずれも演奏も重厚でノリが良く、ボーカルの声はキレが良い。

車のＢＧＭとしても、ＭＤ＆ＣＤプレーヤーでヘッドフォンで聴く
にしても、かなりの爽快感が得られるのは間違いない。
まだ今年度は折り返し点にもきていない時期であるが、
この作品以上の１枚が出ることは考えにくい！

・・・・・・と言っても過言ではないほどの必聴＆名盤である。
