   99年発表のデビュー・アルバム『ノー・エンジェル』に収録されていた「サンキュー」が、あのエミネムの「スタン」にサンプリングされ、一躍、話題の人となったロンドン出身の女性シンガー・ソングライター、ダイド。その後、シングル「ヒア・ウィズ・ミー」がテレビ・ドラマ「ロズウェル　星の恋人たち」の主題歌に使われ、ここ日本でもその神秘的なハイトーン・ヴォイスは広く知られるようになった。

   そんな彼女の2ndアルバムが本作。デビュー・アルバム発表後、精力的に続けてきたツアーで得るものが大きかったのだろう、前作のトリップホップと言うか、いまで言うエレクトロニカ主体のサウンドに、今回はアコースティックかつオーガニックな要素が加えられ、彼女の世界観が一気に広がった印象がある。そして、ときにサラ・マクラクランを思わせる美しい歌声には、やはり抗しがたい魅力がある。（山口智男）

ＵＫ出身のヴォーカリストDidoの２作目です。彼女の強みはまずその声の魅力でしょう。
Sarah McLachlanとの近似性はよく言われるところですが、春霞のかかったような柔らかさと包容力を感じる声、ヴォーカルスタイルも含めて確かにSarahにとても良く似ています。興味をお持ちになった方にはSarahの名作"Surfacing"や"Afterglow"あたりいかがでしょう。どちらがどうなどと感じさせない魅力ですから、これは姉妹と言えそうなお二人を知る幸せに感謝するしかありませんね。
すっと心に入りこんで落ち着いた気持ちにさせてくれる。そんな曲が数多く収められています。"White flag"、"Life for rent"あたりが代表でしょうか、メロディも美しく大切に聴きたい曲に沢山出会いました。多少凝っていながらも抑揚の効いた音作りも丁寧で幅広いリスナーに聴いてみて頂きたい作品です。

ＣＤショップの試聴コーナーで聴いて、すぐに気に入ってしまったの。
white flagの歌いだしがなんといっても好き。
すべての曲を数分ずつくらい聴いたけど、どれも素敵な曲ですぐに購入決定。
ちょっぴり心に暗い陰がさしているときに聞くのがおすすめ。

失恋や別れにかんする歌が多いのだけど、悲しみを抜け出してまっすぐ歩き出そうとする姿勢が歌いこまれているの。

久々に大好きなアルバムに出会えてほんとうに嬉しい。
ダイド……ちょっと変わった名前ですが、ほんとうに彼女のファーストネームだそうです。
パンフレットによるとなにかの物語のヒロインの名前にちなんでるみたい。
Life for Rentは個人的にはNo Angelより気に入っています。

やっぱりDidoは最高ですね。秋の夜長にピッタリだと思います。
特にオススメは「White Flag」です。前作「Thank You」は好きな人の想いを歌った歌なんだけど、この「White Flag」はその「Thank You」で歌った人に対する白旗宣言なんです。そう思って聴くとより一層楽しめると思いますよ。
