moog,arp,ems,korg,rolandなどサンプリングではないシンセサイザーが図太い音を奏でます。モノフォニックが当たり前で、電子音が当たり前だった時代、彼らの音作りは衝撃的でした。ヴィジュアル的にも世界に与えた影響は大きいものでした。ＡＤＳＲをつまみをひねって調整し、一期一会の音に賭けた時代のの傑作です。

知名度がある「Robots」はもちろん良いけど、
このアルバムでは「Spacelab」「Metropolis」をぜひ聴いていただきたい。
「宇宙研究所」「メトロポリス」と言うある種ベタなイメージの曲ではあるけど、未だこれらを超える古き良きSFの世界を表現した楽曲を聴いたことが無い。
インストでアナログシンセの音が堪能できるし、何よりメロディが美しい！
ポップだけど、どこかドイツ的な構築美が見えて美しい。
他の曲も全て良く、全く捨て曲が無い。
曲数は少ないけど、その分何回でも繰り返し聴きたくなる。そんな傑作。

　江口さんの漫画で「進めパイレーツ」というのがありました。そう、その表紙にクラフトワークのこのジャケットが登場したのです。中高生の間で、いわゆるテクノカットがはやり、学校によってはブルース・リーが「燃えよドラゴン」でセンセーショナルに登場したときにブームとなったぬんちゃくと同様、禁止になったところも数多かったと聞いています。クラシック畑出身らしい、これでもかと正確なリズムを刻む電子音とファッションセンスでクラフトワークは先進的な存在でした。
　私は家で「ロボット」を聞いているうちになぜだかどうしてもステレオで聞きたくなり、今はなき駅前の電気店でパワーアンプとスピーカーを買いました。もう２０年以上も昔の話です。当時のパワーアンプとスピーカーは今も健在。そして、クラフトワークも、漆塗りの茶碗のように、年月を経ることでレトロな新しい魅力を今の時代に醸し出していると思います。
　ちなみに我が家はそろって、クラフトワークが大好きです。このところの角が取れた感じのない硬質感も捨てがたい。
　彼らの最盛期の一枚としてお薦めです。
