90'sパワー・ポップの代表選手、マシュー・スウィートの3年ぶりとなる新作は、なんと“日本”をテーマにわずか1週間で作り上げてしまったという異色作。とは言っても、琴や笙が鳴るわけではなく、アニメなど今の日本のポップ・カルチャーをイメージしたものなのだが。そんなわけでジャケットは奈良美智が担当し、アルバム名もマシュー自身があえて外国人の日本語風に面白がってつけたものとなっている。そんなこともあり、日本人以外の国民にしてみれば奇妙な作品に映るかもしれないが、企画ものとして気楽に作ったことがかえって功を奏したようだ。ここ数作は良質ではあったものの、考え過ぎていたのか初期のような抜けのさが楽曲から失われていたのだが、リック・メンクや元テレヴィジョンのリチャード・ロイドという旧知のスタッフと“せ~の”で作ったことで、名作『ガールフレンド』に漲っていた彼本来の黄金律やカンが戻っているのが嬉しい誤算。どうやら日本との相性は抜群のようだ。 (太澤陽) --- 2003年04月号

マシュー・スウィートの４年振りとなる新作が発売となった。しかもタイトルは「キミがスキ・ライフ」これは邦題でなくアルバムの正式タイトルだ。なぜこの名前が付けられたのかというと、彼自身、日本が大好きで、このアルバムも日本の為に作成されたものだからだ。アルバム作成に参加したメンバーは名作「ガールフレンド」と同じ、リチャード・ロイド（Television）グレッグ・レイズ（Velvet Crush）
今まで以上にポップでキャッチーなメロディー。M1は「ただいま！」と伝えているかのような勢いあるナンバー。M3はヴェルヴェットクラッシュを彷彿とさせるギターサウンドにポップなメロディー。どこか懐かしくも新しい彼らしさがたっぷりと味わえる一枚。

For Matthew's fans - this release is on par with Girlfriend, Beast and 100% fun. It is truly infectious and varied. Think he will option this to release worldwide after the 1 year Japanese distribution deal is up. What happened to the tour?
