オリジナルは1997年11月に発売されたもので、バンダイミュージック・エンタテインメントが解散し、徳永氏のアルバムが軒並み廃盤の憂き目にあったのを、現レーベルが復刻したものの内のひとつである。

それまでは「輝きながら…」からのイメージで「バラードの徳永」と言われることを嫌っていたと言われる彼が、『Rainy Blue〜1997 Track〜』を発表した時に、自分はバラードアーティストなんだと自覚したことがこのアルバム誕生の切っ掛けとなったと言われている。
アルバムコンセプトを大切にする徳永氏が、デビューアルバムの「Girl」から、当時の最新アルバム「bless」＋ニューシングル「Rainy Blue〜1997 Track〜」までの中で、彼自身が思い入れのあるバラードナンバーが抽出されたと言われています。

時代背景としてはこのアルバムリリース後に外国へ旅に出る徳永氏。１年後には、２枚のシングルコレクションが発売されたため、結構被っているナンバーも多いが、シングルを除き、各アルバムに収録されているバラード曲はやはりどれも雰囲気と存在感のある曲を選んだなと率直に感じる。
シングルA面曲を除き個人的にお勧めなのが、DISC.1 No5『さよならの水彩画』／No12『君の青』／DISC.2 No4『道標』／No11『太陽がいっぱい』です。「バラードの徳永」の真骨頂をうかがい知れるナンバーだ。

VOCALISTシリーズなどで比較的新しく徳永英明を知った人は、彼を知るために、シングルコレクションから入り、このアルバムはその次の段階で聴かれた方が良いと思います。

世の中に同名タイトルで“よい曲”とされているものはたくさんある。しかし徳永の「恋人」は、人のせつなさを表すのに最も適した彼の声が、曲の世界を最高のセンチメンタルにもってきている。この時の究極さは、そこらでぽこぽこ出てきたバラード歌手には表現できない領域。彼のクリアボイスでしか到達できないから。
DISC1前半~中盤は、徳永の昔や、AORが好きな人でないと、ものたりなさを覚えるだろう。
DISC2の「道標」も「恋人」同様、彼の隠れた名曲。きっと徳永のクラシックさを好きになれた人には、とても喜んでもらえる曲だと思われる。

徳永さんの曲、特にバラードは、何かをしながらではなくじっくりと聴き入ると、よりその良さがわかると思います。
私はこのＣＤの中でも「僕のそばに」が一番のお気に入りで、こう言う男性にそばにいてもらえたら、どんなに嬉しいだろうと思います。

だったらオリジナルアルバムで揃えた方が利口である。
しかし、バランスよく収録されているので★３つ。
