M3とM7以外は見事にバラードで固められたバラードアルバムです。
１つ１つの曲がシンプルながらも歌メロがしっかりしており薄っぺらい感じは全くありません。
彼の歌声が前面に出たクオリティが高く非常に強いインパクトのある作品です。

“現実を把握する”という意味を持つ「REALIZE」は徳永さんのアーティスト人生にとって、極めて重要な位置にあるとされるほど、徳永さん本人はもとより、ファンにとっても今なお高い支持を得ているアルバムである。
それは、２００７年１２月現在で、徳永さんの最新のバラードベストアルバム「Beautiful Ballade」においても、この「REALIZE」収録曲の３曲が選出されていることからも、それを裏付ける。
このアルバムの次作「JUSTICE」から「Nostalgia」に掛けて、徳永さんはいわゆるネガティブ思考に依ったヘヴィーな楽曲を打ち出してゆき、「輝きながら…」以来の従来のファン層の離叛を招いたと伝えられるが、その中にあっても、楽曲「道標」に喩えて、徳永さん自身の道標、いわゆる指標はこの「REALIZE」であると言われ続けている。
要するに、徳永さんにとってのアーティストとしての原点としてこのREALIZEの存在意義は極めて高いというのだが、それは９９年に発表されたシングル「僕のバラード」のC/W「花」が、「君の青」に通じるという秘話にも伝えられるように、徳永さんにとって、このアルバムは不変の指標であると言うことが、今なおそうであると言うことを裏付けている。
大ヒットシングル「夢を信じて」は遂に「REALIZE」を始めとするオリジナルアルバムには収録されなかったが、とても優しく、温かなイメージを持つB面「ラバーズ」が収録された。
クリアブルーのイメージを持つこのアルバムの中で、「春の澄んだ青空」と呼べるラバーズは、特にマイナーなイメージがあるが、徳永さん自身、このアルバムの中で一番、優しいイメージを持っている。と言うほどで、正しく個人的には隠れた名曲中の名曲だ。
徳永ファンならば必聴のアルバムであることは間違いがない。

本人曰く「最後の言い訳」がアーティストとしてのデビュー作とすれば本作はアーティスト徳永英明としてのデビューアルバムにあたる作品。
ファンの間でも好きなアルバムとしてよく挙げられるのがこの作品です。
シングルカット（カップリング込）、ビデオシングル等で（10曲中6曲）少々ベスト版的存在になってしまいがちな本作ですがそれぐらい楽曲のクオリティーは高いです。
「最後の言い訳」はオリジナルバージョンではないのでオリジナルバージョンをお求めの方はベストアルバムの購入が必要です。
89年リリース版ではCDレーベルデザインもアートチックで歌詞カードも必見です。
尚、ゴールドディスク大賞受賞を記念してゴールドディスク版も存在しています。
