　１曲目のワークソングのイントロでキャノンボールのアルトとナット・アダレイのトランペットが、音合わせをしながらテーマに入っていくところが最高にかっこいい。正にライブの醍醐味がそこにある。ドライブのかかったパワー溢れるサウンドに圧倒される至福の瞬間だ。この乗り乗りのオープナーで会場は既に興奮の坩堝だ。

　そこを見透かしたように、２曲目のマーシー・マーシーでチャーチライクな雰囲気を醸し出す。カントリー・プリーチャー・アダレイの心暖まる語りと、ダウンホームなザビヌルのピアノに脱帽。正にこれこそが本当の本物のファンクだ。こみ上げてくる熱い思いをを抑えることが出来ない。見事な演出だ。素晴らしいの一言のみ。

　全７曲につまった最高のパフォーマンスとエンターテーメント。ライブはこうでなきゃつまらない。24bitでリマスターされた音の迫力をはじめて実感できた。キャノンボールがより一層でかく感じられる。キャノンボール・アダレー・クインテットの皆様、最高のライブを日本に残してくれて本当にありがとう。

キャノンボール・アダレイという巨漢のアルト吹きはおしゃべりが大好きなようで、ライブでもメンバー紹介と曲の紹介が結構長い。ＣＤとして残ってるやつでも（あとで編集できるだろうに）つまんないジョークを飛ばしてたりする。「イン・サンフランシスコ」なんか、かなり悪ノリしてる。
1966年のこの日本でのライブは、そのお喋りがいつもより圧倒的に少なくていい。（何たって聴衆は日本人だ）　弟のナット・アダレイとともに、ゴキゲンなノリでサンケイホールを沸かしている。
あと、特筆すべきなのがピアノを弾いているジョー・ザビヌル。ご存知ウェザーリポートのリーダーになるヨーロッパ人（たしかオーストリア人だったと思う）だが、ここではガチガチのファンキーサウンドを連発してるのだ。有名な「マーシー、マーシー」を始めとする彼の作品も、マイルスの「イン・ア・サイレント・ウェイ」で聴かせる、世紀末ウィーンを彷彿とさせるリリシズムとはきわめて遠いところにあって、このミュージシャンの懐の深さを思わせる。その意味でも大変興味深い作品。
