中年の堅物女と初老？のいいかげん男がアフリカの奥地で「逃避行」を余儀なくされます。まずこの組み合わせが何とも可笑しい。乗り物は小さな蒸気船、ナチスの目をかいぐって網の目のような川を下っていきます。

男は女をレディとして遇しますが、狭いボートではいかんともしがたく、寝床を譲ったボガードが雨に濡れそぼつシーンがまた笑えます。

女が言い出したナチスへの宣戦布告、その実行で男はキリキリ舞をさせられますが、その過程で最初は反発しあった男女が互いを理解し、惹かれあっていきます。
自爆攻撃を仕掛けるも失敗、二人はナチスに捕らえられます。スパイとして縛り首ですが、その直前男はプロポーズ、船長に司式を願い出ます。晴れて夫婦となった二人の運命やいかに？

キャサリン・ヘップバーンとハンフリー・ボガード、屈指の名優の競演が本当に素晴らしい。心温まる、おまけにユーモアたっぷりの名作です。

AFI(2007) all time best 65位

ジョン・ヒューストン＆ボギー　のコンビといえば
「マルタの鷹」AFI(2007) all time best 31位
「黄金」AFI(2007) all time best 38位　　　　などもあり傑作揃い

監督＆主演のコンビでAFIに3作品もランクインさせているのは
このコンビくらいだし、二人ともこれらの作品でオスカーの
監督賞、主演男優賞を受賞している。

作品は、これまた名女優のキャサリン・ヘップバーンとボギーの
絡みが面白い。堅物の嫌な、口やかましい女性を愛らしく演じ
ボギーもユーモラスな演技で応えている。

ストーリーはハリウッド的な終わり方だが、名優二人の掛け合いと
アフリカロケの迫力は見物だ。

いま見てしまうとクロマキー処理がちょっとバレバレではありますが・・・

　ボギーの声と粋な台詞。そして、ヘップバーンの可愛いこと。カメラワアークも素敵な楽しい冒険の旅。とっても楽しいお気に入りの一本です。
