映画としては並ですが、戦争映画としては非常に良質でした。

戦争の本質的なものを描こうとしている点で言えば、この作品は深いものを見出していると思います。

それはずばり「非常」という点の追求であると思います。

ハリウッドなどの所謂映画には話の筋があります。そこに何らかのメッセージは確かに存在するかもしれないが、多くの人々のそれを受け入れてもらうために、どうしても見世物にならざるを得なくなっていると思います。故に、プライベートライアンにしろシルミドにしろ、如何に悲惨なものを描いても最後は感動的に収まってしまうのである。

それに対して、この作品は見て決して感動できる話ではありません。話が「筋の通らない」ものによって次々と展開していきます。

理由や大儀ではなく、恐怖や緊張によって起こる殺し合い。
自分が生き残るためには殺さなくてはならない状況

人間が落ち着いた状態で考え行動するという「日常」の原理ではなく、状況に翻弄され、不条理なものに全てを決定される「非常」の世界が戦争の姿であるとこの作品は表現していると思います。

最後まで見ると、どうしようもないという感覚に襲われます。平和維持という大義名分のため「非常」の世界に送り込まれるこの若いスペイン兵士達と同じ境遇に、イラクの多国籍軍の兵士達は置かれているのでしょう。

B級戦争映画だろうと思って見たが、良質な映画だった。ハリウッド映画の大騒ぎを期待している人にはおもしろくないかもしれないが。
