ソフトロックと呼ばれるカテゴリーの中では、常にトップクラスの人気を誇る名盤ですが、思いのほか、好みが別れてしまうんじゃ無いでしょうか。タイトル曲『Finders Keepers』が象徴する通り、明るいポップサウンドが目を引きます。知る、知らないに関わらず、楽しい気分になれる曲なので、以前はよくクラブでも耳にしました。

確かに、「ポップさ」を基準に見ると、素晴らしいクオリティのアルバムだと思います。只、同じソフトロックと言われる中でも、例えば、ビーチボーイズの「PET SOUNDS」や、ゾンビーズの「Odessey&oracle」あたりの、温度低めな質感を求めてるという方には、もしかすると、それほど気に入ってもらえる作品では無いかも知れません。

しかし、何れにせよ、ハイレベルなポップミュージックである事には変わりありませんので一聴の価値ありですが。
フリッパーズギターが好きな方や、ジェリーフィッシュ等が好きな方、「昔の曲はよく知らないが、モンキーズみたいなのは好き」という方
達には間違い無くお薦めです。

初めて彼らの楽曲に触れたのは、日本人アーティストによるカバーによるものでした。
それは、スペインのネオアコレーベル・シエスタから出たSOMBREROというコンピで、BOBBY'S ROCKING CHAIRというアーティストが、このアルバムの代名詞とも言えるM1をやっていました。
最初、カバーということを知らずに、てっきり彼らがオリジナルだと勘違いし、なんてかわいくてポップな曲を書くんだと思い、実に現代のネオアコ然とした楽曲なんだと一人納得したりしておりましたが、実際は68年の曲なんだから、さらにぶったまげました。

そして、このアルバムへと行き着いたわけですが、ブッダレーベルというと、バブルガムポップの聖地という感じで、僕にとってバブルガムというのは、ちょうどバターケーキのごとくちょっと甘さが過度なきらいがあるんですが、このソルト・ウォーター・タフィは別で大変、洗練されていて、洒脱なイメージがあります。とにかくセンスがいいんです。サンバがジャズを取り入れてボサノヴァへとつながっていった流れに近い根っこの部分のエレガンスさを感じます。その辺、ソフトロックの中でも、特に楽曲のクオリティは秀逸で、よく練られているなあと思います。

作曲、プロデュースを担当したロッド・マクブライエンという人の音楽制作の天賦の才は、かのミレニウム、サジタリアスのカート･ベッチャーと比類できるほど素晴らしいと思います。彼は、これまたソフトロックの名グループ・イノセンスのアルバム制作にも関わった人物で、やはり名作には鍵となる人物が必ず関わってきているのが常な様です。

もうこれは、ソフトロックの理想型です！
1.Finders Keepers の子供コーラスから始まるところは
最高にキュートだし、ほかの全曲も胸踊る心地よさですね。
声がいい、メロディーがいい、歌詞がいい、つまり満点なのです！！！
LPを何度も聴きすぎて音が悪くなっていたので、
CDが出るのを待っていました！しかもボーナストラック2曲が
踊りたくなっちゃうかわいさ。
まちがいなくマイベストです。
