   10歳の誕生日に、自分が捨て子だったことを知らされた少女レミ。人買いに売られそうになるところを旅芸人の老人ヴィタリスに助けられ、一緒に旅をすることに。道中で、親切な貴婦人・ミリガンに助けられるが、彼女が自分の本当の母親だということをレミはまだ知らない…。エクトル・マロの有名な小説を原作に、1996年から1997年にかけて放送された23本目の「世界名作劇場」。シリーズ最後の作品である。
   主人公の性別をはじめ、本作は原作を大きく改変。結果として、「不幸な境遇にありながらも明るさを失わない主人公」「旅の中ではぐくまれる信頼」「濡れ衣」「親しい者の死」「意地悪な親方」「子どもたちの友情」「実は主人公は貴族の子ども」…といった、「世界名作劇場」的キーワードがてんこ盛りの、シリーズの集大成と言えそうなストーリー展開になった。声優陣も、堀江美都子（「愛少女ポリアンナ物語」他）、山田栄子（「赤毛のアン」他）、林原めぐみ（「七つの海のティコ」）など、おなじみの面子がそろいぶみ。最後の作品であることを意識していた、というのは考えすぎだろうか？
   ヴィタリスがレミに告げる「前へ進め！」というセリフが、シンプルだが心に響く。後半、レミは果たして母親に再会できるのか？という話でもうちょっと盛り上げてほしかった気もするが、90年代も後半という時期にあって、あくまで「世界名作劇場」らしさにこだわった意欲作だと言えるのではなかろうか。（安川正吾）

この作品は大好きでいつかビデオを全巻そろえようと
思っていて「完結版」が出たのでこれでもいいかと買いました。
いきなりビタリス氏が放火犯の疑いをかけられるところから始まるとは
さすがに省略しすぎです。
個人的には「私のお母さん」を歌う場面が好きで期待していたのですが。。。
あとマチアのバイオリンの話とかも省略されてたりして。。。

でもそんなこんなもふくめてもいいＤＶＤです。
久しぶりに見て家族といっしょに感動してしまった。
とってもお勧めです。

日本アニメーションの中でも大好きな作品です。ウ゛ィタリスさん優しいし、マチアはかっこいい。レミも強く優しい女の子。見ていてつい応援してしまいます。もう感動！！

古い方の作品である、東京ムービーの出崎杉野コンビによる「家なき子」を見てしまうと、明らかにこちらが見劣りする。
絵柄が今風になって見やすくなっただけで、声優の演技も昔の方が上。
折角の大作を端折りすぎてもいて、初めて見る子供は面食らってしまう。ＴＶ放映を見た人が気に入っているならＢＯＸを買うべき。
堀江美都子ファンであるというだけで購入した私にとっては、作品としての価値は低かった。まあ値段の安さが救いか。
