   時は19世紀後半。スイスの小さな村に住む少年ロミオは、人買いに買われ、イタリアのミラノで煙突掃除夫として働くことに。道中で出会った少年アルフレドとやがて再会し、2人は固い友情で結ばれる。煙突掃除夫の少年たちをおびやかす不良少年「狼団」に対抗すべく、彼らは「黒い兄弟」として団結する…。リザ・テツナーによる原作をアニメ化した、「世界名作劇場」21作目、1995年の放送作品である。
   今ふうに言えば「ストリートに生きる少年たちの友情と抗争の物語」というところか。若干ハードな設定ではあるものの、演出やストーリーの構成などの面で古きよき「世界名作劇場」の世界に“原点回帰”しようとした様子が感じられる、丁寧なつくりの作品である。終盤には「実はアルフレドは貴族の血をひいており…」といういかにも「世界名作劇場」らしい展開も待っている。ただ、「ロミオの青い空」というタイトルは、この意外に硬派な物語にはいささか軟弱すぎたかもしれない。
   主人公ロミオの境遇は悲惨だが（「小公女セーラ」以来の“貧しさゆえの虐げられキャラ”である）、常に前向きな気持ちを忘れないその姿は頼もしい。そして何より、「誰もが自由に学び、自由に生きる時代をともに作ろう」と誓い、お互いを高めあう、ロミオとアルフレドの友情のすがすがしさがこの作品の一番の見どころだ。（安川正吾）

　私が最も好きな「ロミオと青い空」　このDVDは、たったの一時間半ですが十分楽しめる仕上がりとなっていました。本編には、死神との出会い、アンジェレッタとの別れ、アルフレッドとジョバンニとの決闘、そしてアルフレッドとの永遠の別れなど様々な名場面がありますが、一時間半という短時間のためにカットされていたり少々強引に引っ張っている場面があります。個人的にはあと一時間半あればもっといいのができたのではないかと思うしだいです。
　さてこの作品で主に収録されている主な場面について説明します。まずはアルフレッドとの出会い、ミラノでの煙突掃除、アンジェレッタとの交流、アンゼルモの仕返し、アルフレッドとの再会、黒い兄弟の結成、ビアンカとの再会、黒い兄弟と狼団との協力によるアルフレッドの名誉回復、そしてアルフレッドとの永久の別れです。この作品を一時間半に収めなければならなかった編集者のつらさがなんだか分かるような気がします。またあれだけの量を感動をほとんど壊すことなく編集できたのは驚くばかりです。もう一度、ロミオの世界を楽しんではいかがですか。またあのときの感動が蘇ってきますよ。純粋な気持ちになれます。

子供の頃に好きだった作品ですが、大人になってから見返してみると
また違った面白さがありました。
完結版なので全てのエピソードは収録されておらず、その為に展開が
多少強引ではありますが、私的には十分楽しめました。
子供の頃は泣かなかったのに、今回はロミオとアルフレドの友情に
泣かされてしまいました。

安定した作品を世に送り出してきた名作劇場の作品なので、安心して観る事が出来ると思います。この作品は全体的に感動に満ちていて記憶に残っている人も多いはず・・・。画像や声優陣などアニメとしての質も素晴らしいですが、ストーリーそのものにも惹きつけられるでしょう。
