今回新たに発売の記念すべきシリーズ第１作目ですが、これはアメリカ公開ヴァージョンで、日本で公開された映画、発売されたDVDともに内容が異なり、ロブ・ロウ、クリスチャン・スレーターらのカメオ出演のシーンがすべてカットされているヴァージョンです。カットされたこれらの部分は米盤DVDでは映像特典として収録されていますが、なぜかクリスチャン・スレーターだけは未収録。国内版も未収録の可能性ありです。完全版が観たい人は国内旧版を探すしかありませんので、注意です。ただし、この旧版、画質はいまいちで、音声もただのステレオ音声です。

最初これを見たとき、「なんておバカ！」と大笑いしてしまいました。
お下品なので子供には薦められない気もしますが、絶対隠してでも持っておきたいです。
それにしても衣装やら小道具やらも派手で小技が効いていて、「ああ、なんてくだらないところに手間をかけてるんだ････。」と嬉しくなっちゃいます。

オースティン・パワーズの第1作で、一連のシリーズの原点です。公開当時は、「メリーに首ったけ」などと合わせて、「おバカ映画」と言われましたが、こちらはもう第3作まで作られ、マイク・マイヤーズのはまり役になりました。それでも「おバカ」ですが。

舞台は60年代の英国。悪の帝王ドクター・イーブル（マイク・マイヤーズ）は、英国スパイのオースティン・パワーズ（マイク・マイヤーズの二役）との戦いのあと、ビッグボーイ型の冷凍宇宙船で冬眠して、30年後の90年代によみがえり、再び世界支配をたくらむ。英国秘密機関は、冷凍冬眠させていたオースティンをよみがえらせる．．．。

後の2作品に比べて、この作品が一番007的なストーリー展開になっているようです。敵基地に潜入、捕らえられるが脱出、そして大爆破とお決まりのストーリーです。007といえばカジノですが、カジノのシーンでも笑わせます。

私が最高に笑えるシーンは、預けていた私物を受け取る時の、「ペニス・エンラージャー」のシーン。オースティンが否定しても否定しても、次々としつこく証拠が出てきます。同じギャグを何度もしつこく繰り返して、徹底的に笑わせるパターンは、このシリーズでも何度も出てきますね。小便のシーン、ムスタファが助けを求めるシーン、ドクター・イーブルと息子スコットとの掛け合いも、全部そのパターンですね。

ボンドガールは、エリザベス・ハーレー。高い鼻と英国アクセントが魅力。最初は、オースティンの下品さを嫌いますが、やがてその魅力のとりこに．．．。昔のスパイシリーズのヒーローだった、ロバート・ワグナーが、「ナンバー2」役で出てきますが、しばらく見ないうちにかなり歳を取りました。以外なところで、自分の歳を実感させられます（笑）。スパイスガール映画のロジャー・ムーアにも驚きましたが．．．。
