甘くしなやかなラブ・ソングは歌わない。失ったものを懐かしむような歌もない。小久保淳平が歌うテーマは、デビュー当時から一貫している。それは、多くの人々が手を取り合って、未来へ踏み出すための“行進曲”だ。セカンド・アルバムとなる本作には、そんな彼の思いがいつにも増して濃く出ている気がする。たとえば、ビートは重厚に、キッチリと刻まれている。歌詞は不安や絶望を抱えた人々に向けて、呆れるほど誠実に問い掛けている。彼の持ち味がこれだけだったら、その歌は単に、押し付けがましいだけの“応援歌”で終わっていたかもしれない。しかし小久保の歌は、人々を奮い立たせる、極上の行進曲として成功しているのだ。なぜなら、練りに練ったキャッチーなメロディが、確実に聴き手のハートをつかむから。全音域を覆う絶妙なビブラートは、震えながらも前進する、彼の誠実な心を伝えてくるから。情熱をたたえたポップな行進曲。今私たちが求めているのは、案外こういう歌なんだと思う。 (島津智子) --- 2003年02月号
