ファーストから４枚目の『Vibrator』まで網羅しているベスト盤で、B-Sideの曲、サントラ提供曲、他のアーティストへの提供曲、また別名儀で発表したシングルからの曲も収録されています。
特筆すべきは７曲目の「ザ・バース・オブ・モーディー(インクレディブル・E.G.オライリー)」でしょう。
これは限定シングルCDとして確かセカンドアルバム発表前にリリースされたものでした。
また、11曲目「イッツ・オーライト・マ」はボブ・ディランのカバーで、ヘブン17のBEFプロジェクトに提供した曲でしたが、この曲が収録されたアルバム『music of quality and distinction volume2』は入手困難のアイテムでしたので、とても嬉しい収録です。

ブラック・コンテンポラリーなど打ち込み系のサウンドが全盛の時代に、生音と打ち込みを絶妙にブレンドし、オーティス・レディング、ジェームス・ブラウンばりのストロングスタイルのボーカルで一世風靡したファーストアルバム。
ソウルの復権とも言うべき、敢えてその時代に生のソウルを鳴らした先進的なセカンドアルバム（先進的ゆえに当時のリスナーからは理解されずセールスも芳しく無かったが、今聴いても決して古びていない）。
ハウスやグラウンドビートなど独自に咀嚼し、時代との接近を図りつつも、その多様な音楽性ゆえに、やはり彼独特のサウンドとなったサードアルバム。
トレードマークというべき、ドレッドヘアーをばっさり切り落とし、金髪にするというスタイルの大きな変化、そしてサードアルバムを更に発展させた幅広い音楽ジャンルをミックスさせたフォースアルバム。

一貫してテレンスの存在を焼き付けているのは、やはり彼の声ですが、どんな曲においても、彼の歌声が重なるだけでTTDミュージックになるということを再確認するのに適したベスト盤だと思います。

多くの人にとっては、「あの人は今？」的なテレンス・トレント・ダービーではあるが、このベストアルバムを聞くと、やはりこの人の「歌声」は唯一無二のものであることが再確認できます。個人的には来日時のライブの圧倒的なパフォーマンスに感動した思い出があるので、このアルバムのリリースを機に新しいマテリアルを是非聞いてみたいと思いました。

青春時代を思い出す時に、彼の歌声が私の中にあることを本当に心の底
から感謝したい。

厳格な牧師を父親に持つ彼が、ゴスペルしか聞くことを許されなかった
というのは有名な話だ。そこで彼はストーンズ、ツェッペリンに手を出
す訳だが、その結果、彼の作り出す音楽はとてもユニークなものになっ
た。

今作の収録曲を決める作業は、難航を極めただろうと思う。アルバム未
収録曲はもちろん、ライブバージョンも多く存在するからだ。
彼に興味のある方には、グラミー賞のパフォーマンスを集めたCDもお薦
めしておきたい。この時の「If　You　Let　Me　Stay」はその日のトリ
であるマイケルを食ってしまったというファンの間では有名な音源だ。

今でも、彼は名前を変えて細々と活動を続けている。しかし私の中のテ
レンスは、初来日での武道館公演アンコール「Let　Her　Down　Easy」
をピアノ弾き語りでやる際、「座って楽にしながら聞いてよ」と観客全
員を席に着かせ、優しく微笑みかけた彼なのである。
後にも先にも、あんなヤツいない…。
