７０年発表の１ｓｔ。木管や弦楽奏者を含んだ非トラッド系のフォーク・ロック系のグループではあるものの、クセの強さはトラッド系のグループを軽く蹴散らすほど。このイタコかシャーマンか何かの儀式のような雰囲気はちょっと恐いくらいだ。コーマスとは快楽と音楽を司る神のことらしいが、カミソリで切り刻まれるかのような恐怖感と諦めにも似た開放感を合わせ持ったこのグループに相応しい気がする。幽玄で果敢ない女性ヴォーカル(ケイト・ブッシュ系)と暴力的とも言える力強い男性ヴォーカル(ロジャー・チャップマン系) が、弾きあうのではなくきちんと融合して彼らでしか出せない世界を作りあげているのが魅力的。何にしても個性という意味ではこのグループに勝るフォーク系のグループは少ないだろう。演奏はピリピリとした雰囲気が伝わってくるかのような緊張感の高いものであり、生半可な演奏では無い。とにかく儀式そのもののような曲もある。ジャーマン系のプログレ作品にも通じるものがあり、難解という意味では類似点もあるが、彼らの場合は曲そのものはしっかりしており、雰囲気だけで逃げているような作品では無い。万人にお薦めとは言い難いものの、クオリティは高く無視出来る作品ではないと思う。お伽話の恐い方の部分っていう表現が相応しいか？
大作の２．あたりはプログレ好きには応えられない世界だろう。

バイオリンやビオラ、フルートやオーボエが重なり合い、呪術的な男性&女性ボーカルが絡み合い、闇の賛美歌のようなダーク且つ神秘的な世界が蠢いています。美しさと醜さが同居しています。私は好きです。
