DeathやActheistと比較されがちですが個人的には随分違う印象を受けます。非常にテクニカルでプログレ（デス系の人嫌いな人多いですがこのフレーズあまり気にしない方がいいですね。）で不思議な音楽です。とても個性的でcynic以外にcynicらしいバンドは存在しません。これまた以前から入手困難な超名盤が最近入手できだしたみたいです。ただブルータルデス好きな人にはあまりお薦めでないかも。。。野生っぽいブルータルな有機質的な破壊といったイメージはなく、とても無機質な破壊的音楽です。この無機質っぽさがたまらないんですが（笑）当然ＶＯはデス声です。

ATHEISTの同郷バンドで、テクニカル路線のデスメタルバンドがこれだ。CYNICのサウンドは、どちらかと言えば、ジャズっぽい雰囲気をサウンドに反映させているのが特徴である。決してプログレではないが、曲展開が目まぐるしい。マネージメントとの対立が悪化したために解散してしまったのが非常に残念でならない。

もう入手できないと思ってたのでこの再発はうれしすぎました。デス系の中では、いや、全てのミュージックシーンの中でも極めてテクニカル、トリッキー、かつ繊細な音楽です。デス史にもこんな隠れた名盤が存在したことは、デスを聞く者としては知っておくべきだと考えます。これはデスというカテゴリーではくくれない、シニックという名の最初で最後のミュージックジャンルではないでしょうか？
