   転校生、山田太郎は、やたらとでかい弁当箱を使っていたことから「ドカベン」とあだ名される。彼は柔道部に所属するが、その能力が見込まれ野球部にスカウト、入部することに。そして岩鬼、殿馬、里中といった超個性的なメンバーとともに、高校生としての青春を野球にかける、甲子園を目指す日々がはじまる。
   キャラクターはそれぞれ異常に個性的で、これぞ野球マンガといった趣ではあるが、しかしこれまでの多くの作品が超人的野球を展開するのに対し、本作では地に足のついたリアリティあふれる試合が描かれるところが魅力的。（田中　元）

　全編を観て感じたのは、明訓高校の強さは、
メンバーひとりひとりの優しさの中にあると
いうことでした。別段、作者にそのような意
図があるのかどうかわかりませんが、非常に
そういった優しさを感じました。
　またその優しさは、それぞれが、苦境に立
ち、苦労をしたからこそ、人間として、ひと
まわりも蓋周りも成長するような気がしまし
た。

　野球漫画としても素晴らしい作品なのでし
ょうが、正直、野球の細かいことは僕にわか
りませんので、この点についてあれこれ申し
上げる気は御座いません。

　しかし、古いアニメなのに、本当に迫力と
いうか、パワーを感じる作品ですね。名作と
して殿堂入りする作品でしょう。

現在も「プロ野球編」として連載が続けられている
この作品は高校野球漫画の傑作である。
一世を風靡して、現在のベテランのプロ野球選手の多くに
影響を大きく与えた。
先のレビューにも書かれていたが、この作品には
「魔球」と呼ばれる類のものは殆ど出てこない。
地に足のついた展開である。
そのリアルさがこの作品の魅力であり、持ち味である。、

高校二年の夏に明訓高校が破れるまでがアニメ化されていました
それの完全版です
最後の方はドカベン人気も終息していて
高校三年の春夏は投げやりな展開になっていましたから
アニメ化してなくて良かったでしょう
第一アニメの方も最後は投げやりですし
野球アニメとしてはまっとうな出来ですが
全部見ると・・・凄い値段になります
好きな人にどうぞ
