この映画が公開された当時、僕は中学１年生。当然のことながら、テレビ時代のあぶ刑事など、見たこともなかった。僕があぶ刑事をはじめて見たのは、TVスペシャル‘98だった。それがあまりに面白くて、このTHE MOVIEも、劇場まで見に行った。そして、いよいよあぶ刑事の魅力から、抜けられなくなった。
とにかくカッコいい。タカとユージ、すなわち舘ひろしさんと柴田恭兵さんの圧倒的なカッコよさ。ハイテンションなアクション、おバカなユーモア、だれも真似できないファッション。
そして、なにがあってもシリアスにならない。どんなヤバイ事件も、すべてジョークの延長で片付けてしまう。いつも笑っている。笑っていながら、それでいて孤独や信念、覚悟といった、ハードボイルドな空気を見せることも忘れない。
古くからのあぶ刑事ファンの間では、『リターンズ』『フォーエヴァー』と続く新しい作品群は、あまり評判が良くないらしい。でも、逆に『フォーエヴァー』から入った新しいあぶ刑事ファンから言わせると、あぶ刑事の魅力は、当初からずっと、変わっていないと思う。敵が何者でも、あぶ刑事はあぶ刑事だ。僕は、『リターンズ』も『フォーエヴァー』も大好きだ。

ついに完結(？)してしまったかのような衝撃的なラスト。
毎回のお約束と思っていましたが、見事に裏切られてしまいました。
内容はぶっ飛んでおり、TVスペシャルで大いに暴れた城島があっけなく退場してしまった事はちょっと残念。
またヒロインも本荘まなみに変わってしまい、いまいちTVシリーズとのリンクを生かせていないようでもったいないですね。

でも高山＆大下の活躍は相変わらずで、見ていてやはり楽しいです。
広げまくった大風呂敷を、多少強引ではありましたがきちんと終わらせましたし。

このまま終局する事無く、是非続編を作ってもらいたいと強く希望します。
あぶ刑事世代にとっては、あぶ刑事を超える刑事ドラマは存在しません。

　劇場版は回を重ねる度に｢見て損した｣という気にさせられる。最初の劇場版は「マダ」観れるが、これを頂点にドンドン劇場版への関心は無くなっていった。最新作も｢どうせまた・・・｣と冷めて見る気がナカナカ起きない。
