パーソンズは、今でも堅実に活動しているようだが、丁度デビュー〜ブレイクの頃は、９０年前後空前のバンドブームに符合する。Xやバービー等ヒットを飛ばしていたバンドに比べると、パーソンズはヒット曲は、それほど無かったが、常に良質な楽曲を提供していたと思う。多くの人がそうであったであろう私も、ドラマで起用された「dear friends」から入った口だが、この曲に代表されるようにハードロック系でありながら、クリアーなギターサウンドに乗せたメロディアス重視のサウンドが彼らの最大の武器だろう。心地よいjillのハイトーンボイスもそれに華を添えた。
jillを筆頭に、ショウヤ顔負けのケバケバしくありながらもかっこ良いメイク、スタイルも様になっていたし、何より彼女らの曲を聴くと他のバンドより一際懐かしさを感じる。キャッチーなメロというのは、ティーンの頃に最も愛する要素だと思うが、パーソンズがそれを十分満たしたサウンドを奏でていたからだろう、またボーカリストjillの雰囲気は、中村あゆみのようなティーンの心を掴むようなオーラ・存在感・パワフルな歌詞を持っていたので、聴けば当時の想い出を回顧せずにはいられないだろう。もちろん、彼らの演奏テクニックも素晴らしいし、９０年前半に入っても「sayonaraは言わない」等佳曲をリリースしてきた一貫した音楽性も素晴らしいと思う。

最近、こういう硬派なバンドがいないのが、実に寂しい。

98年までのデビュー当時からの
所属レコード会社の音源ベスト。
今、聞いてみてと、
かなり演奏レベルは高い位置にいたことが
非常によくわかる。
89年のメジャーデビュー当時から、
一貫したバンドのテーマを持ち、
途中のメンバーの入れ替わりが、
基本的にはないバンドも、
かなりめずらしい。
収録曲も、どこかメロディアスで、
そして、確かなリズムと、それを裏打ちするようなテクニックは、
さすが結成20年！
ただ、所々「方向過渡期」と思われる音の変化があり、結局元に戻っていると思われる時期の曲があり、
このアルバムには、その時代背景があまり反映されていない。
ベストなので仕方がないが、
コアなファンのための長いバンドの歴史も、
合わせて感じられるような作品なら、
もっとよかったかも

現在も地道に活動しているPersonzの2枚組ベスト。テイチク時代の非常に美味しいところが網羅されていてお奨めです。中学〜高校とよく聴いていました。でも本当はこれに収まらないほど沢山の名曲を残していますよ。彼らの凄いのは、音作りやバンドのコンセプトがデビュー時に完成されていることだと思います。デビューアルバムなんて、とても新人バンドのアルバムには聴こえないレベルです。バンドのキャラも、紅一点のジルをはじめ、他の3人も結構格好良く、”その他メンバー”という感じで埋もれることはないキャラですね。また、シングルは良いけど、アルバム自体は駄曲が多いというバンドは山のようにいますが、彼らはシングルのみならずアルバムの曲が非常に良いです。どのアルバムもお奨めですが、特に１ｓｔ〜５ｔｈは良いです。さぁ、みんなで買いに行きましょう！！
