王冠を被った耳の長いチワワ犬がベッドの上にいる、
シュールなイラストのジャケットが印象的なアルバム。
ジャケットだけでなく内容も、かなりシュールです。
そしてフランス的上品さも持ち合わせているZNRは、
根底でエリック・サティへの繋がりを感じさせ、
漂うようなピアノに美しいヴァイオリンの調べが重なり
耽美な世界を展開しています。

ミニマル音楽的な要素も感じられ、完成度も高く
ZNRの最高作と言われているのも頷けます。
これは夜中に聴くべき作品でしょう。

フランスのチェンバーユニット、ZNRの2nd。1979作
エレクトール・ザズーとジョゼフ・ラカイユの二人を中心にしたユニットで、
ピアノ、ヴァイオリン、管楽器によるクラシカルでジャズ風味のある小品集であるが、
「一般機械論」という謎のタイトルや、曲名にしてもいちいちこまっしゃくれた題名が付けられ、
優雅なサウンドとは裏腹に、知的なひねくれ加減と、アンニュイな醒めた視点がうかがえる。
ひとことで言えば、上品で軽やかなダークさ…とでもいうべき精神性だろうか。
エリック・サティからの影響をさらに時代的に落としこんで表現したようなサウンドは、
表装のやわらかさの奥に、フランスからしか出て来ないアイロニカルな薄闇が垣間見える。

サティ的ともいえるかもしれないが、それに期待する人はたぶん裏切られる。サティ的な寛容さとか楽天性はあまりないように感じる。
おそらくもっとアヴァンギャルドだ。
不和の中の一瞬の快楽と断続的な絶望、そんな感じの音です。
