硬質なギター・ワークは変わらずに、前作よりヴァラエティ豊かになったサウンドの表情が秀逸なセカンド・アルバム。PalaceことBonnie "Prince" Billyとも交流のある彼ら、デビュー・アルバムをプロデュースした、御大「Steve Albini」は今作ではエンジニアで参加、このサウンド・メイキングには、彼の関わった「Slint」や「Shellac」と同質の空気を感じる事ができます。ただ、そういったバンド達とはちょっと違うのが、全編に漂うノスタルジックなサウンドでしょう。全編インストで構成されるこのアルバムは、曲個々の展開が著しく変わりますが、とっちらかった印象は全く無く、むしろ単調になりがちなこのテのバンドの中では群を抜いたドラマチックな展開を見せています。「Mogwai」あたりのファンにもおすすめ！彼らほど暗くは無いけども。

　baltimore出身の4人bandであるsonnaの、2002年発2nd full album。
　リリースはメンバーも在籍するtemporary residenceから53枚目。

　ジャケットの穏やかな森林のイメージ通り、かなりリラックスしつつ風通しのイイ、肩の力の抜けた作品で、音作りや表現の姿勢は維持しつつも、前作のカチコチな緊張感が抜けててとても聴き易いです。
　post rockの中でも軽めで、slowcore / instrumentalを前提に美しく絡む2本のguitarと、drumとbassによってゆったりと刻まれるbeatはとても心地よく、とてもdreamy。

　演奏もセッティングもシンプルで、使われている楽器もguitarやbass、drum、piano、等なのだけど、彼らのいろんな音楽に対する興味が現れているのか、特にtr-3ではdrone / experimentalな曲作りにも挑戦していて、このアルバム自体のコンセプトとして意味深い感じ。
　エンジニアは引き続きsteve albiniで、今作の深遠でノスタルジックな仕上がりを考えると、とてもイイマッチングとしか思えない。

　「何かしながら」の音楽にはモッテコイですね。
